August 2014

Dear Families,
Welcome to Pre-K at Cedar Lane School! My name is Ms. Dallas Wiles,
and I will be you child’s teacher this year. I am looking forward to getting to
know you and your child as we take on a fun, educational, and overall fantastic
adventure together here at Cedar Lane! There will be two preschool classes; an
AM and PM class. Placement in either class is determined by transportation
and housing location. The AM class will take place from 8:30 to 11:00. The PM
class will take place from 12:00-2:30. Your child will be in a co-taught classroom
with a team of teachers as well as assistants for extra support throughout the
year. At Cedar Lane we promote inclusion in our classrooms and take pride in
our students with and without disabilities coming together to learn and grow.
Throughout the school year, your child will learn language and communication
skills, literacy, fine and gross motor coordination, social skills, mathematical and
scientific thinking, appreciation for music and the arts, creativity,
independence, confidence, cooperation, and academic readiness skills.
Communication folders will be sent home on a daily basis and will help keep you
up-to-date on important events, dates, and skills to practice at home.
I believe that communication is the key to you child’s success and to a
great parent/teacher relationship. I encourage you to contact me if you have
questions or concerns at any time. When I receive my in-county email address I
will send an email to everyone with more contact information. For now, please
contact the front office at (410)-888-8800.
Before pre-school begins, I would like to meet you and your child. During
this time, we will go over information about your child, the preschool program,
their knowledge of basic skills, and take a tour of the classroom. Below is a list
of times that I am available. Each session will be no more than 20 minutes. I will
send each family an email with further information on how to sign up for a date
and time.

 Friday, August 22
 Monday, August 25
 Tuesday, August 26

This would be a great time to drop off your child’s school supplies! The school
supplies are:
 1 backpack (with your child’s name written on it)
 1 lunchbox (with your child’s name on it for snack)
 2 pocket folders (with your child’s name written on them)
 1 box of crayons
 First beginner jumbo pencil pack
 8 glue sticks
 1 box of washable markers
 1 box of tissues
 1 box of plastic bags (sandwich or gallon-sized that seal)
 1 change of clothes in a plastic bag with your child’s name written on the
clothes and the bag)
Classroom extras (please don’t feel obligated)*
 Hand sanitizer
 Wet wipes (for messy hands)

I can’t wait to meet you and your child! We will have a fun adventure growing
and learning together throughout the school year.

Welcome Poem

Welcome students, I’m glad you’re here
We are going to make this a wonderful year!
We’ll read and we’ll write
We’ll sing and we’ll play
We’ll explore new stories
Each and everyday!
There’s lots to learn
And fun things to do.
You will even meet a new friend or two!
So come excited and ready to use your brain,
And we’ll start an adventure together at Cedar Lane!
