MEDIA RELEASE
Monday 14th July 2014

New National Representatives for International Students
The Council of International Students Australia (CISA) wrapped up a successful three-
day conference and its 4th Annual General Meeting this past week. Incumbent
President, Mr. Tong Sheng Chng was re-elected to continue leading the peak body
for international students, promising a grass-root engagement strategy which focuses
on projects and campaign-based activities for fellow member organisations in
conjunction with the conference theme Engage Locally, Connect Nationally.
We aim to foster a stronger engagement with our member organisations through
structural changes and reforms, said Mr. Chng.
This national conference has taught us to be brave and proactive in advancing the
interest and the great cause for the betterment of our fellow international students. It
is all about creating opportunities for many of them out there, he added.
To assist CISAs advancement into its fifth year, Mr Chng emphasised on the
importance of organisation operating with the principles of competency, accountability
and transparency. He also reminded fellow members about maintaining the
independence of this organisation while facilitating the concerted effort of various
stakeholder groups in supporting fellow international students.
Over one hundred and fifty student representatives attended the conference last week
to voice the concerns of international students. CISA will continue to independently
advocate for students by addressing these challenges, and by empowering
international students through community engagement.
CISA bids farewell to the outgoing executive team, and would like to thank them for
their contribution.
