BIOGRAPHY OF OSWALDO GUAYASMIN

1) Oswaldo Guayasmin was an exceptional ecuadorian painter.

2) He was born on July 6, 1919 in the city of Quito in a humble family.
3) Since he was very small he loved to caricature and paintings.
4) Despite the difficulties he wanted to become a great artist.
5) At the age of 23 he first exhibited one of his works.
6) Between 1942 and 1943 he remained six months in the USA.
7) He traveled to many countries of Latin America meeting many famous painters
8) He received titles as a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Doctor Honoris
Causa and others.
9) He made some 48 solo exhibitions and his production was fruitful in easel paintings,
murals, sculptures and monuments.
10) From 1995 he started in Quito's most important work, the architectural space called
"The Chapel of Man", to which he devotes all his effort.
11) He died on March 10, 1999, in Baltimore (USA), even without seeing this project
completed.
