CourseRequirements:
AttendanceYoumustabidebytheattendancerulesmandatedbythedistrict.Theserules
canbefoundinthestudentplannerissuedtoyouatthebeginningoftheschoolyear.Inaddition,ifyou
areawareofanupcomingabsenceitwouldbetoyouradvantagetoletmeknowinadvance.Itismuch
easierworkingabitaheadthentryingtocatchuponcefallenbehind.

LateWorkIfayoumissesclassduetoanexcusedabsenceyouwillhavetwodayswhere
classisinsessiontocompletethemissedassignments.Afterthattimeperiodpasseseachadditionalday
thatitisturnedinlatewillresultina20%decreaseinpotentialgrade.Ifanassignmentisturnedinlate
withoutavalidexcuseitwillalsoresultina20%decreaseinpotentialgradeperdayitislate.

ExtraCreditExtracreditwillbearareprivilegeinthisclass.Itisexpectedthatyoucomplete
theassignedwork,throughoutthelengthoftheentireclass,toreceiveapassingscore.Youcannotrely
onextracredittosaveyourselvesfromafailingscore.

TardysIfayoucomestoclassafterthebellringswithoutapass,youwillbemarkedtardy.
Ifyouaremarkedtardy4timesyouwillreceiveanhourofdetention.

BullyingThereisazerotolerancepolicywithinmyclassroomwhenitcomestobullyingor
misbehavior.Everyonedeservestofeelsafeinschool,specificallymyclassroom,soitisEXPECTED
thatpeerstreateachotherwithrespect.

ReadingCounts!ThisisaschoolwidereadinginitiativewhereyouwillreadTWObooksa
quarterthentakeanexamoneachbook.Theexamwillbeonthecomputerandyouwillhavethree
chancestogetatleasta70%toreceiveapassingscore.Asaclasswewillgotothelibraryatleast
onceamonthwhereyouwillbeabletocheckoutbooks,takeexams,andread.Thebooksyouchoose
willbebasedonyourLexileScore,arangethatfitsyourreadinglevel.Youmaychoosebookseither
50pointsbelowor100pointsaboveyourscore.Ifyouarehavingadifficulttimefindingbooksinyour
rangecomeandseemeandwewillfindasolution.

BookReportsOnceasemesteryouwillbeexpectedtopresentabookreporttotheclass.

ExamsYouwillbeaskedtocompleteexamsthroughoutthecourseoftheyear.Theywill
includebutarenotlimitedtomultiplechoice,fillintheblank,andessaytypesofquestions.Thedateof
theexamswillbeannouncedatleasttwoweeksbeforethetestdate.Foreachexamtherewillbesome
sortofreviewthatwillbecompletedeitherinclassorinpaperformwhereyouwillbeabletotakeit
home.ExamswillbemodifiedforstudentswithIEPsorothersimilardesignatedstipulations.

WritingPortfolioAsaEnglishcoursetherewillbemanydifferentdraftsofmanyvarious
typesofwriting.Therewillbecompleteessaysthatwillbeturnedinasanassessmentofdemonstration
oflearnedskills.TheseessayswillrequirethecurrentMLAformatting,outline,drafts,andafinalized
copytoreceiveapassingscore.Theseessayswillbekeptinaportfoliotomeasuregrowthandfor
eachstudenttoseetheprogresstheyhavemadeintheyear.
