Sports Premium Funding

The planned use of the school sport funding at St Columbas Catholic Primary School will
enable us as a school to provide effective high quality PE and sports provision.
Aims of the Sports Funding for St Columbas
Improving the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision using teachers or sports
coaches
Increasing participation in PE and Sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles
and reach the performance levels they are capable of.
Providing opportunities for children to take part in sports clubs outside of school
hours.
St Columbas will receive 9000 per year until 2020. For the school year 2014/15 this
funding has been allocated in three ways;
1. 750 to take part in the Cluster Sports fixtures within the Thornleigh Cluster.
2. 7,000 to employ the services of One Goal to deliver (and coach staff in) Curriculum
PE and Sports and extra-curricular clubs, twice weekly.
3. 1,250 to purchase sustainable resources.
This provision is in its infancy but we have a very clear plan which includes:
Planning and implementing a cluster programme of sports leagues, competitions,
tournaments to increase pupils participation.
Enthusing staff, parents or volunteers where possible or sourcing and paying
external sports coaches to run clubs, competitions and increase pupils participation
in school games competitions
Quality assuring the work of sports coaches employed to coach in PE lessons and
after-school sports clubs
Working alongside teachers in lessons to increase their subject knowledge and
confidence
Providing quality-assured professional training for staff to raise their confidence and
competence in teaching PE and sport

year, covering a range of activities and year groups
One Goal to provide professional development for class teachers by working
alongside them in lessons to increase subject knowledge and confidence
One Goal to provide after school multi-sports clubs
