EAR PAIN

Purpose: To initiate and expedite care from triage for all MEDcare patients based on
presenting symptoms and agreed upon guidelines.

Common presenting symptoms sets include:

Unilateral or Bilateral ear pain
Jaw/tooth pain
Headache
Fever
Fussiness
Irritability
Nasal drainage
Possible foreign body


Procedure:

1. Place patient in procedure room.
2. Obtain strep and flu swab.


Orders:
Strep swab
Flu swab


Additional Considerations:
If febrile, treat with Tylenol or Motrin per Fever Standing Order
Anticipate elephant ear wash irrigation if related to impaction of earwax
