The Indonesian Language Program in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) is proud to announce the
second annual Indonesian Language Student of the Year Award which will be given to a student of Indonesian from
an Australian school. The recipient of the award will receive a certificate that recognises his/her contribution and a
package of Indonesian language study and reference materials. Airfare from the recipient’s closest capital city and
one night’s accommodation in Melbourne for the award ceremony will also be provided.

Indonesian Language Student of the Year Award
The award recognises the outstanding contribution of Indonesian language students in Australia in classroom
learning and engagement, and also to Indonesian language learning activities overall in this country.

Nomination process
Indonesian language teachers in Australian schools are invited to nominate students they believe deserve the award.
There is no nomination form, but the nominator is asked to briefly address the following selection criteria in writing:
 Outstanding learning and participation ability as reflected in classroom behaviour and student achievement;
 Commitment to the learning of Indonesian;
 Contribution to the profile of the Indonesian language within the local community and in creating a favourable
impression of the language and culture;
 Generation of a spirit of excitement and accomplishment among peers of learning Indonesian and promoting a
real desire to study and master the language; and
 Any other special qualities the nominee may have.
In addition, the nomination must be accompanied by a signed statement from the nominee, which must be approved
and signed by his/her Principal and parent or guardian, and a brief biography of no more than 100 words. The signed
statement must contain the full contact information of the nominee and indicate that the nominee:
 is a student of Indonesian currently learning the subject in an Australian school;
 agrees to being nominated for this award and to attend the award presentation ceremony at Deakin University
on Monday 27 October 2014; and
 agrees to being featured on the website and in publications of the Indonesian Language Program, SHSS, and
Deakin University for the purpose of raising the profile of Indonesian study and teaching in Australian schools.
