ABSTRACT

Chronic kidney disease is renal failure for regulate excretion of water and salt that can
cause edema (either peripheral edema or pulmonary edema). Chronic kidney disease is
defined as the value of the glomerular rate below the normal range for more than three
months. Many diseases can cause chronic kidney disease, including 30% glomerulonephritis,
interstitial nephritis and reflux nephropathy 20%, 10% polycystic kidney disease, diabetes
mellitus 10%, hypertension 10%, obstuksi uropathy, and unknown disease 20%. For
preservation their life, patients who are in the final stage need to do hemodialysis therapy.
The research question is there are differences of erythrocytes number in patients with
chronic kidney disease before and after hemodialysis therapy at the hospital Dr. Soetomo,
Surabaya. The purpose of this study is to determine the differences of erythrocytes number in
patients with chronic kidney disease before and after hemodialysis therapy, to analyze
differences of erythrocytes number in chronic renal failure before and after hemodialysis
therapy.
Type of this research is observational analytic and the sample size of 30 samples
were taken by purposive sampling or the selection criteria of patients with chronic kidney
disease who have therapeutic measures before and after hemodialysis therapy at the hospital
Dr. Soetomo, Surabaya.
Based on the results , the number of erythrocytes in patient sample is known that the
average number of erythrocytes before hemodialysis therapy of 3,529 x106 / uL and after
hemodialysis therapy hemodialysis therapy at 3,041 after x106/uL. Statistical analysis with
paired T-test showed no difference in the number of erythrocytes in patients with chronic
renal failure before and after hemodialysis therapy, with a significance value of less than
0.05.
