Personal Helicon

Definitions:
Helicon
A mountain in Greece
A brass instrument that is spiral shaped that encircles around the players
head and rests on the shoulder.

Narcissus
Narcissus was a beautiful hunter from Greek mythology who was the son
a river god and nymph. He was attracted to a pool by Nemesis, saw his own
reflection, fell in love with it and could not move away from it.

Windlass
Seen in traditional wells, a windlass is an apparatus for moving heavy
weights.

Fructify
To bear fruit or become productive

Foxglove
Foxglove is a species of flower (digitalis) that has drooping (usually
purple/pink) flower heads on a stem.

Pry
Pry is another word for prise but also refers to enquiring too inquisitively
into someone elses affairs.


In a literal sense, Personal Helicon is about the poets intense fascination with
wells. This fascination with the well borders upon awe as seen in the title of
Personal Helicon where Helicon can be seen to refer to the Greek mountain that
is the basis for many myths. Danger associated, they could not keep me from
wells)
The structure is five stanzas of four lines each. Regular stanzas and regular
rhyming bottom.
Enjambment is quite present
Moment of realisation in the fifth stanza.
Contrived in poetic structure. Draws attention to the fact that it is a poem.
