WHIMIS & FIRST AID

Compressed Gas
A compressed gas is a substance that is a gas
at normal room temperature and pressure,
and is contained under pressure, usually in a
cylinder.
Flammable Gas
Oxidizer
Oxidizing materials are chemicals that can
decompose readily to yield oxygen or an
oxidizing substance.
Poisonous
Poisonous and Infectious Material-
Immediate and Serious Toxic Effects

Toxic
These materials can cause life-threatening and
serious long-term health problems as well as
less severe but immediate reactions in a
person who is repeatedly exposed to small
amounts.
Biohazard
These materials contain an organism that has
been shown to cause disease or to be a
probable cause of disease in persons or
animals
Corrosive
This class includes caustic and acid materials
that can destroy the skin or eat through
metals. Examples: sodium hydroxide,
hydrochloric acid, nitric acid
Reactive
These products may self-react dangerously
(for example, they may explode) upon
standing or when exposed to physical shock or
to increased pressure or temperature, or they
emit toxic gases when exposed to water.
First Aid

As a minimum, a low-risk workplace such as a
small office should have a first-aid box
Workplaces where there are more significant
health and safety risks are more likely to need
a trained first-aider.
Defibrillators
If you decide to provide a defibrillator in your
workplace, it is important that those who may
use it are appropriately trained.
What should a first-aid box in the
workplace contain?
a leaflet giving general guidance on first aid (for example, HSE's
leaflet Basic
advice on first aid at work);
20 individually wrapped sterile plasters (assorted sizes), appropriate
to the type
of work (hypoallergenic plasters can be provided if necessary);
two sterile eye pads;
two individually wrapped triangular bandages, preferably sterile;
six safety pins;
two large sterile individually wrapped unmedicated wound
dressings;
six medium-sized sterile individually wrapped unmedicated wound
dressings;
at least three pairs of disposable gloves
When dealing with a casualty, how can
the risk of cross-infection be
minimised?
Wear the correct gear. (face mask, etc)
Why you should know First aid
First Aid & CPR training is mandatory for
employees in the workplace; But can be used
in everyday life.

FIRE AND EXPLOSION DATA

Highly Flammable and can be a severe fire
hazard.
The vapor easily forms explosive mixtures with
air at room temperature.
Acetone is capable of vapor flashback.
.
REACTIVITY DATA

Stable under normal temperatures and
pressures.
It reacts vigorously with strong oxidizing
agents such as nitrates, peroxides,
