In any fieldbusiness, politics, education, governmentthose in power should be
required to step down after five years.
Write a response in which you discuss your views on the policy and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider the possible consequences of implementing the policy and explain how these consequences shape your position. In todays American society, we witness those in power resign from their positions all the time, whether it be of old age, or because they were corrupted. However, a policy requiring those in power to resign their position after five years should not be implemented as can cause much instability within our society, regardless of which field. The policy that requires those in power to step down after five years will cause an unbelievable amount of instability. For example, in government if all presidents were expected to step down every five years, this may incur many policy changes at a regular basis. Despite many concerns about the governing abilities of Obama, if he was expected to resign after his first five years, an unsuitable candidate may arise and cause unwanted economic and political changes within our system. In regards to businesses, expecting the CEO to resign from his or her position would be unwise. For instance, if Steve Jobs or Bill Gates were expected to leave their positions within five years, chances are the technology we have today such as fast computer systems and Iphones may not be at their highest potential. Another problem with this policy can be seen in the field of education. Requiring teachers and professors to leave their position every five years would be a horrible idea. The teaching abilities of teachers improve as they gain more experience on their job. It is clear that the success of students in schools and higher education have a huge reliance on the quality and teaching abilities of their teachers and professors. For example, at a school like UCLA, older professors generally have more experience in research and have a better quality of teaching style than younger professors. The longer they remain in their position, the more time they have to revise their curriculum and improve on their teaching abilities. Implementing a policy that requires all people in power to resign within five years is a bad idea. This policy however, can be beneficial in some circumstances. For example, if there is a lack of good leadership or if there is corruption within the government, it may be a good idea to implement this policy. For example, if a mayor is taking bribes to implement policies desired by another party, it may be a good idea to have a policy that forces people to leave their position on a regular cycle. This can also be true when regarding businesses or the government, when a manager is not doing a good job in leading projects or when a senator is corrupted. All in all, it is important to not implement a policy that requires those in power to resign from their positions every five years.
