Grade 8 Core French


Welcome to Core French! In order to be successful a great amount
of effort is required. Attention must be made
to speak French at all times in the French
classroom. Activities during class time provide
you the opportunity to practice your French
skills through speaking, writing, reading and
listening to French. Students will be
encouraged to exchange opinions, thoughts
and information. The aim of this course is to
aid students in reaching a functional level of
skills that will assist them to live function more
effectively in our bilingual country.
Core French Curriculum Outcomes

Communication:
Students should be able to communicate effectively in French, both
orally and in writing, and to interact appropriately in a variety of
situations that relate to their needs and interests.
Culture:
Students should be able to demonstrate an appreciation and
understanding of francophone cultures, while comparing them with
their own culture, as well as appreciation and understanding of
Canadas multicultural reality.
General Language Education:
Students should be able to choose and implement strategies to
facilitate their communication in French and improve their learning.
Language:
Students should be able to recognize and use in context elements of the
linguistic code, orally and in writing, to facilitate their communication
in French.

Assessment
Students will be evaluated on an ongoing basis
through their participation in the Core French
program. Throughout the term a variety of
assessment tools will be used to gather information
about student achievement. Students will have several
opportunities to meet curriculum outcomes in a
variety of formats, such as: journals, projects,
presentations, quizzes, observations and
conversations.
Oral comprehension 30%
Oral production 30%
Written comprehension 20%
Written production 20%
Student Expectations
Attendance:
Students are expected to come to class on time and prepared to work.
Absences:
When class time is missed, it is the students responsibility to collect and complete missed work. Extra help is
always available so be sure to speak with me about missed class time or assignments.
Materials:
Students are expected to bring all necessary materials to each class including duotang, looseleaf and a pen or
pencil.
Homework:
Review is an essential to success when learning a second language. Formal homework is rarely assigned; however,
when it is assigned, it must be completed prior to the following class.
Participation:
Participation in class is key in Core French. There are many supports in place to help you get going. This is an easy
and effective way to be successful this year.





Communication
Communication is very important in tracking student
success and resolving any concerns that may arise. In
order to facilitate communication between home and
school, the following methods can be used. For general
information, notices will go home with the student. As well,
the school website, my website and PowerSchool will be
valuable communication tools.

(421-6777). I will make contact as needed by email or
telephone. It is hoped that these methods of
communication will be helpful in ensuring the success of
every student.
