A Stalwart Indian
Swimmer.
 HURDLES
 Lost both his legs during a train
mishap at the age of 11.

 No funding available initially for his artificial legs surgery.

 Lack of interest shown by Indian government for appreciating

his achievements.

 “I have not been able to swim at any challenging venue for

the last eight years because I did not get sponsorship” – M.R.
Baidya.
 ACHIEVEMENTS
 First swimmer in the world as a double
amputee below the knee to cross the
strait of Gibraltar in 2001.

 Fastest swimmer & First Asian to cross

the English channel without artificial legs in 1997.

 Won many long distance open swimming tournaments all over

the country.

 Selected as a Brand Ambassador of The Silicion Group of

Companies.

 Future Endeavours :The Palk Strait mission in 2010.
