14 Our timescale of under a year to fnal report was demanding and, together with a wish to learn from

work done by others and to avoid duplication, was a signifcant infuence on our working method. This

was a combination of review of the fndings of completed and, where available, ongoing studies having a

bearing on our remit; taking oral evidence from a range of practising academics and researchers; and

commissioning briefng and studies in areas where we needed supplementary input.

15 The programmes to which we had regard are listed at Annex A, and the specifc studies in the Reference

section. Those who gave oral evidence are shown at Annex B. We commissioned one substantial study –

of current and developing international practice in the use of Web 2.0 in HE – and this is available on our

website (www.clex.org.uk).

16 We met six times in full session and held one event dedicated to hearing evidence.
