Session Title: Listening and Speaking

Description:
This session is designed for the course participants (CPs) to recognise the sounds,
letters and stresses on the pronunciation of words.

Training
Outcomes
By the end of this session, CPs will be able to :
i. pronounce words and speak confidently with the correct
stress, rhythm and intonation.
ii. respond to oral texts in a variety of contexts.
iii. distinguish the different approach of teaching reading and
samples of exercises
iv. understand the KSSR reading objectives

Activity 1 Getting To Know You (Describing Pictures)

Procedure Trainer shows the prepared PP of overview on the activity
Explains and discusses with CP each slide
1. Show a composite picture (Appendix 1 Pg. 14 Teachers
Guide)
2. Pupils describe what they see in the picture.
3. Stress the pronunciation of words that contain the
phoneme // : Claire, fair, hair, chair, air
4. Pupils repeat words that contain the phoneme // :
Claire, fair, hair, chair, air
5. Pupils describe the picture in their own words.
Trainer must relate the activity to the learning outcomes of the
KSSR (reading).
Understood through discussion and explanation.

Activity 2 Lend Me Your Ears (Poem Recitation)
Procedure Trainer demonstrate the activity:
a. Show a composite picture (Appendix 1)
b. Teacher tells the story.
c. Stress the pronunciation of words that contain the phoneme

d. Pupils repeat the words that contain the phoneme // :
Claire, fair, hair, chair, air with teachers guidance.
e. Teacher models the sentences and pupils repeat.
This is my friend. Her name is Claire. She is very pretty and
fair. She has long hair. She sits on the chair. Everyday she
combs her hair. She enjoys the fresh air.

Trainer make sure CPs are aware and ensure it is taught.

Activity 3 Come On , Sing Along
Procedure Teacher demonstrate how the activity is done
1. Show a composite picture (Appendix 1)
2. Teacher talks about the picture.
3. Stress the pronunciation of words that contain the
phoneme /e/ : Claire, fair, hair, chair, air
4. Teacher sings the song and pupils follow.
5. Sing the song with action paying attention to
pronunciation, rhythm and intonation.
