Name: _________________________________________________________ A Formulas & Equations Tier 3 Activity

Objective: To write a childrens book based on a fairy tale and a chemical equation of your choosing.

Directions:
1. Take at least 4 sheets of printer paper.
2. Stack the papers and fold them in half hamburger style to make a booklet.
3. Staple along the fold of the pages at the top, center, and bottom so that your book stays
together.
4. Choose a fairy tale and a chemical equation (use previous assignments/notes for an equation!)
to base your childrens book on.
5. Write your book title, draw a colored picture, and write your name on the cover of the book.
6. Number your inner pages at the bottom outside corner, skipping the back of the cover.
7. Develop your storyline based on your chemical equation by having each element (or atom, if
you choose!) in the equation a character in the fairy tale.
8. Decide on names for each element charactercreatively based on the element names!
9. On the pages of your book, write your story and draw & color pictures.
10. Create a science reference page (see below) on the last page of your book.

Requirements:
1. Cover of book with title, colored picture, and authors name (10 points)
2. Minimum of 10 pages used for the storyline (70 points total)
Each story page must include:
Colored picture with at least 4 colors (1 point/page)
Dialogue between the characters (2 points/page)
Description of what is happening in the story written like a childrens book (rhyming is
optional, but not required!; 4 points/page)
3. Science reference page must include: (20 points total)
Key of character names and elements (5 points)
Your balanced equation written out with the number of atoms of each element listed
under the reactant and product sides of the equation (10 points)
Description of how your equation follows the law of conservation of mass (5 points)
