EDTC 6332 Practicum in Educational Technology

Luis Banuelos

Performance Problem
Most of us shampoo our hair on a daily basis and thus the act itself may seem trivia but to
perform the activity in a professional setting requires adherence to health, safety and
performance guidelines. In order to pass the state cosmetology exam and receive their
license, students must learn and practice established hair shampooing standards.
One of the challenges facing beauty school instructors today is how to get students to
remember the many steps involved in safe hair washing. There are seventeen steps to
proper hair shampooing that students must learn to pass the state exam. One way to
enhance retention is to group activities into sections. For example these sections could be
preparation, sanitation, safety, examination, procedure, and post procedure activities.
Teachers can also provide other avenues of instruction besides handouts and lecture such
as PowerPoint presentations, online flash tutorials, and peer modeling.

Deliverables
Please describe your deliverables. What does the final project look like? What is the final
project made up of?

The final project will be a PowerPoint based instruction with built in assessment. Same
content will be available online for students to access after school hours. Student and
instructor guidebook will be included. Guide will highlight activities that will be
completed at the rate of one per week during class. The guidebook is divided into three
sections.

1. Preparation
2. Sanitation, Safety and Examination
3. Procedure
