Hispanic Culture Review

A Literary Journal of the Hispanic World
Hispanic Culture Review is a 25-year-old bilingual scholarly journal that publishes narratives
(fiction and nonfiction,) essays, poetry, drama, and visual art related to the Hispanic world at
George Mason University. The journal covers a variety of topics related to the world of Hispanic
culture and literature, including but not limited to social issues and their reflection in literature,
multiculturalism and immigration, cultural productions of Latinos in the U.S. and identity politics,
literature of Latin America and Spain, personal testimonies and book reviews.
We are currently accepting submissions for our 2014-2015 issue and we are happy to announce
our First Hispanic Culture Review Award Competition. We welcome writers and graphic artists to
submit their work.

First Hispanic Culture Review Award Competition
The aim of the First Hispanic Culture Review Award Competition is to encourage writers and
artists to submit original and finely crafted works that reflect creative interpretations of the
Hispanic world and its culture.
Up to three winning submissions will be selected. Winners will be published in a special section
of our journal, and each will receive: $100 cash prize, and a diploma.
Winners will be announced in via e-mail and in our blog. Prizes will be presented at GMU’s
Modern and Classical Languages Award Ceremony in May, 2015.
In order to be considered, submissions should conform to the following guidelines:

Follow the latest edition of the MLA Style Manual or the APA Style Manual.
Texts should be written in Arial, 12 point font size.
Acceptable length of text: essays (including endnotes): 3,000 words; narratives: 2,500
words; poems: up to 50 lines.
Visual art guidelines: pictures in JPEG format, 300 pixels per inch.

Submitted works should not been previously published and is not under review for
publication elsewhere.

The selected contributions will be published in the printed and online version of HCR in April
2015. HCR reserves the right to publish submissions exclusively on its website.
