Biography of Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift is an American singer-songwriter multi-Grammy award winner. In 2010, at the age
of 20, she was the youngest artist in history to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
Taylor Alison Swift was born on December 13, 1989 in
Reading Pennsylvania, to Andrea (Finlay), a one-time
marketing executive, and Scott Kingsley Swift, a financial
adviser. She has English, German, Irish, Scottish, and 1/16th
Italian ancestry.
Taylor Swift was named after
James Taylor, a famous
singer-song writer. Her
mother believed that having
a gender neutral would help
her forge a business career.

Having her mother put her in saddle at only 9 months old,
Taylor’s first ever hobby was horse riding. Later she would
perform and compete in horse shows. At the age of nine
Taylor switched her attention to music theatre and
performed in Berks Youth Theatre Academy productions of
Grease, Annie, Bye Bye Birdie and The Sound of Music.

Taylor regularly travelled to Broadway, New
York, for acting and vocal lessons. However,
after auditioning in New York for a few years
and getting nothing, she got interested in
country music.

Taylor started her career as a singer
at the age of fourteen, having
secured an artist development deal
with RCA Records. When she was
fifteen she left RCA Records and
resolved to wait until she was 18 to
make her first album. During the long
wait Taylor decided to record covers
of various other artists.
Her plan for waiting until she was 18
got pushed away, and she went
ahead with her career, determined
that she was ready to pursue her
dreams. At an industry showcase at
Nashville's The Bluebird Café in 2005,
Swift caught the attention of Scott
Borchetta, a Dreamworks Records executive who was preparing to form his
own independent record label, Big Machine Records. Taylor became one of
the new labels first signings.
