Objective
The Junior Coaches Program is designed to help gym owners development
and train young prospective All-star cheer coaches that are athletes in their
program. The program helps the gym owner identify athletes that could
potentially have the qualities to be productive cheer and tumbling coaches in
the industry. The Junior Coaches program was developed by Courtney Young
of Ohio Extreme in Columbus, OH. Courtney decided to create the program
after being continually frustrated with hiring coaches that were not
responsible nor equipped to coach successful teams despite their
background in sport as an athlete.
The Junior Coaches program will help to develop quality coaches in our
industry. We feel that the benefits of the program will be on going. The over
all benefits include: !)Providing the gym owner the proper tools to train and
develop young perspective coaches 2) Better technique will be taught in all
areas of All-star cheer through out the country thus making for a better
product on the floor. 3) Creating a safer environment for ALL of our athletes.

examples:
"Communicating clearly" Don't contradict or challenge anything the head
coach says in front of the team. If it's a safety issue, it needs to be
immediately addressed, but keep the conversation private or when it would
be appropriate to discuss differences.
"Leading team warm up" Be in practice room when team arrives. Smile,
excited to see them, upbeat welcome to practice. Once they arrive
immediately begin warmup (jumping jacks, laps, races, etc). Lead stretches.
hands on warm up and stretch training
give them a hard time by stretching incorrectly or always asking to go to
the bathroom
video break down
give tips on how to critique tumbling and stunting
show them what to look for
tested on usasf safety for the level they are coaching (similar process to the
written usasf exam)
first-aid and cpr training (usually done on a different day with whole staff), be
familiar with (and provide) score sheets
Selected coaches will begin work
Head Coaches and Gym Owners continue to train, motivate, inspire,
and guide junior coaches to be successful on and off the mat.
