Page NO. 3 of 15, 1. SCOPE This method statement covers the detailed procedure for installation of Sprinklers. This procedure defines the method used to ensure that the installation of sprinklers is carried as per the contract specification requirements and the approved drawings of Sheraton Doha Renovation Project 2. REFERENCES: Contract Documents: ‘© NFPA 13, 2007 Edition Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems ©The Local Fire Authority, Qatar Civil Defence Directorate + Shop Drawings 1.1. The Construction manager is over-all responsible for the implementation of the method statement, to ensure that the team of engineers and foreman are aware of this MS and, to ensure that all resources (labor, material and equipment) are available to carry out the work as planned. 1.2. The Project Engineer is responsible to carry out the work as per the approved MS. He is also responsible to ensure adequate equipment for mobilization works are in place prior to the starting of work 1.3 QA/QC Engineer is responsible to ensure work has been done as per the specification and drawings, inspections are done as per Quality Control Procedure and the Inspection and Test plan , and all work are offered to the Consultant for inspection. The Safety Engineer is responsible to ensure that all safety precautions are in place, and that all personnel onsite are using the Personal Protective Equipment (helmet, gloves, safety shoes, coveralls, eye protection etc). DEFINITIONS & ABBREVIATIONS: Fire Protection System. Any fire alarm device or system or fire extinguishing device or system, or their combination, that is designed and installed for detecting, controling, or extinguishing a fire or otherwise alerting occupants, or the fire department, or both, that a fire has occurred ‘Automatic Sprinkler. PROCEDURE: 6.1. Then returned to store with inventory list 6.2 Pro installation Procedures: 62.1 Ensure that all safety requirements are in place in accordance with project safety plan 622 Ensure that the latest revision of the approved working drawing is being used On receipt of material on site, QA/QC engineer/ Site Engineer shall 6.2.3 inspect the material internally and inspection shall be offered to the engineer for approval in MIR ( Material inspection request form) 6.2.4 Prior to Commencement of work, areas and access will be inspected to confirm that site is ready to commence the work. Check for correct location and reference / type of sprinklers is as per 62.5 approved shop drawing and as per material submittals before installation. 6.2.6 All relevant documentation (Drawings) and Material applicable to particular section of works will be checked by Site supervisor prior to commencement of work. ‘The Site Engineer! Site Supervisor will give necessary instructions to tradesmen and provide necessary approved Construction / Shop drawings of latest revision along with co-ordinate lay outs. 627 METHOD STATEMENT FOR DISMANTLING & INSTALLATION OF SPRINKLERS ‘Document No MS-MEP-FF-OT REVO Rov 0 Dale of Bsus APRILIS 207 Page No. 6 0°15, 628 The Site Supervisor/Foremen will also check that proper tools and equipment are available as per the tools list to carry out the work and are in compliance with contract specification. 6.29 The Site Supervisor also explains the tradesmen regarding safety precautions to be observed. 6.2.10 Supervisor shall ensure that correct tools and sprinklers are available for installation and to achieve compliance with contract requirement 6.2.11 Prior to installation of sprinklers, ensure the piping is installed, tested and approved by consultant. 6.3 Method of Installation: Installation of Concealed Sprinklers > Prior to commencement of work co-ordination will be done with other services. > Ensure that the false ceiling frame is completed and leveled. =e Ensure that the access is available for the floor to install the sprinklers. @ Install all piping and cut the sprinkler drop nipple to position the %" (15 mm) NPT outlet of the reducing coupling at the desired elevation. The drop nipple must be perpendicular to the ceiling and centered in a 2" (50 mm) diameter opening in the ceiling > With the sprinkler in the plastic protective shell, apply a small amount of pipe-joint com pound or tape to the external threads of the sprinkler only, taking care not to allow a build- up of com pound in -side the sprinkler inlet. > Use only the special wrench designed for installing concealed Sprinklers. If a sprinkler thread leak occurs, normally the unit must be removed, new pipe-joint com pound or tape applied, and reinstalled. This is due to the fact that when the joint seal leaks, the sealing compound or tape is washed out of the joint. > After testing, repairing of all leaks and painting of the ceiling, the cover plate assembly may be attached. > Ensure that the false ceiling work is completed or finish coat is painted > Remove and discard the plastic protective shell from the sprinkler > From below the ceiling, gently place the base of the cover plate assembly over the threaded body of the sprinkler protruding through the 2" (50 mm) diameter hole in the ceiling > Push the cover plate assembly onto the sprinkler until the unfinished brass flange of the cover plate base touches the ceiling » Ensure that the cover plate assemblies are not field painted or mechanically damaged must be replaced immediately, 6.4 Method of Installation : Installation of Upright Sprinklers > Ensure the ceiling is completed or finish coated is applied. v Install all piping and cut the sprinkler drop nipple to position the %" (15mm) NPT outlet of the reducing coupling at the desired elevation. + With the sprinkler in the plastic protective shell, apply a small amount of pipe-joint compound or tape to the external threads of the sprinkler only, taking care not to allow a build-up of com pound inside the sprinkler inlet. Sprinklers with protective caps or bulb shields must have the caps or shields kept on them when applying pipe-joint compound or tape. > Use only the pipe wrench designed for installing upright Sprinklers. Ensure that the ceiling works are completed in the sprinkler location and access (minimum if 80cm x 80cm) is available to use the pipe wrench on the sprinkler drop nipple. With the sprinkler in the plastic protective shell, apply a small amount of pipe-joint com pound or tape to the external threads of the sprinkler only, taking care not to allow a build- up of com pound inside the sprinkler inlet. Sprinklers. with protective caps or bulb shields must have the caps or shields kept on them when applying pipe-joint compound or tape. Secure the escutcheon onto the sprinkler by hand turning the escutcheon clock wise onto the sprinkler threads. Use only the pipe wrench designed for installing pendent Sprinklers. This is due to the fact that when the joint seal leaks, the sealing compound or tape is washed out of the joint. 7, QUALITY CONTROL: The Project Quality Plan (PQP) is issued as a commercially confidential document and at all times remains the property of EFECO & REE (JV). The overall objective of the PP is to provide a control frame work to ensure that all aspects of project from the start through the final inspection and handover to the employer, including all equipment and material incorporated in the works, comply with the contract requirements. The Client's Quality standards shall be strictly implemented. The Company's Standard Quality Manual and Project Specific Safety Manual shall also be followed. QC Manager will be responsible for implementing site quality procedure plan and carry out all inspections and testing including material receiving inspections as well as producing and managing NCR's 8, SARETY: Implementation of Health & Safety mechanisms and checks shall be done as per contract agreement and the approved EFECO safety manual. The safety officer shall carryout the necessary routine inspections. Safety Lighting : Safety lights will be used in case of power failure ensuring good illumination for the personnel. Green color safety jacket shall be worn on site for all personnel who are in site, Task Lighting: Adequate lighting will be provided ensuring the good illumination of the working area.Task Lighting will be connected to the nearest site distribution board which is RCD protected. Emergency Arrangements: Site general safety procedure will be followed. In case of emergency, the safety officer will stop the work. Any movable or adjustable parts should be lightly oiled to protect against corrosion and to prevent misalignment. 10. Sharpening activities must be carried out by skilled worker. 11. Tools should not be left lying around, to avoid someone falling over it and getting damaged. 12. Site Engineer has to monitor hand tools are under good condition and usage is correct. 13.
