This was my first day in Ms. Hayes classroom. I explained

everything that I had to accomplish within the class and she was
eager to help me. I observed the classroom as Ms. Hayes sent them
to their desks to work on writing their names. Ms. Hayes provided
the students with gridded paper in which they wrote each letter in a
separate block. When they had completed this task they were
allowed to go into their centers until it was time for lunch. They
lined up and walked in a line to lunch. They then walked, in a line,
to the restrooms before they went on the playground. The students
played until it was time to get back to class. When they got back to
class they worked in their centers until it was nap time.

Today Ms. Hayes started the class talking about friends. She held a
discussion with the class that lead to her announcing the theme of
the week as friends. She put up the concept words on the board

while she explained each and showed pictures of each. They then
counted the syllables in each word. She then pulled up a game in
which the object was to select the correct number of syllables for
each word. They then went to their desks and worked on the letter J
while Ms. Hayes played a few videos on the letter J. they were then
given a worksheet with the letter J and their names until it was time
to line up for lunch. When they got to class, they went to their
centers until it was nap time. I noticed that as they slept the teachers
woke some of the students up to use the restroom which indicated
to me that there were accidents that occurred with those students.
When they woke up, they went to their centers until it was time for
snacks and distribution of homework folders.

Ms. Hayes introduced the theme, How do family members care for
one another? by asking the students what it means to care for
someone and how they show that they care. She showed the
students the book and asked them what they thought it was about.
While she read to them, she modelled reading from the left side of
the page to the right side. She used inflections in her voice for more
animation to keep the students attention. She also used props to
make the story more alive to the students. She then discussed
vocabulary from the story with pictures to show the students the
context. They then went to practice writing their names. When they
wrote them in a satisfactory manner they were allowed to go the

different centers until it was time for lunch. After lunch they went
to the playground. When they got back into the classroom Ms.
Hayes used the theme of the story to introduce making get well
cards to the students. She modelled the process to them as she
guided them through it.

This was the day the school celebrated Halloween. The students
were getting ready to go out and trick or treat. Some parents came
to accompany the class. One student, though given consent, did not
go on the trip due to behavioral issues that had escalated.
When they got back to class, they looked at a Curious George video
about Halloween. The students had fun looking at the video and
playing in their costumes. They went to lunch They then walked, in
a line, to the restrooms before they went on the playground. Ms.
Hayes had the students run a race to see who would be the winner.
They then played on the playground set until it was time to go back
to class.

Today was picture day and the day that I taught my lesson. The
students were very excited as we took them to get their pictures
taken. I then started my video lesson which had to be repeated due
to technical difficulties. I then did another lesson until it was time to
go to lunch. When they got back they took their naps and watched a

movie when they woke up as it was Fun Friday.

Ms. Hayes provided the students with gridded paper in which they
wrote each letter in a separate block. Some students, however, has
lined paper with their first and last name as they had successfully
learnt to write their name. I sat with some students individually to
help them with their names. One student was so excited when he
got each letter right. It was a rewarding experience to help him.
When they had completed this task they were allowed to go into
their centers until it was time for lunch. They lined up and walked
in a line to lunch. They then walked, in a line, to the restrooms
before they went on the playground. The students played until it
was time to get back to class. When they got back to class they
worked in their centers until it was nap time. I told them goodbye
and some of the students ran up to hug me. It was definitely a great
experience working with this class.
