Where Leaders are Cultivated and Dreams are Born
Dear Dunbar High School Community,
Today, after school dismissed, Metropolitan District Police (MPD) released information that a former Dunbar High School administrative staff member was arrested this afternoon on charges of first-degree child sex abuse. I am deeply upset about these allegations. While I am not able to share details of the incident, here is what I can share at this point. Last Friday, November 14, a Dunbar student reported to our School Resource Officer that an incident of sexual abuse occurred in the fall of 2013. The student named a former Dunbar staff member. The information was immediately shared with MPD who then began an investigation right away. We fully cooperated with this investigation and with MPD. I want you to know the safety of our students was and always remains our top priority. These allegations are extremely troubling to all of us. Our attention remains focused on supporting our students. And again, he is not a current member of our staff. We understand this incident will raise emotions, concerns and questions for our entire school, especially our students. On Monday, Dunbar counselors and the DCPS Crisis Intervention Team, which is made up of professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents and school personnel, will be at our school to support our students. In addition, if your child shares any information related to this crime, please contact MPD. You can reach the Youth Investigations Division at (202) 576-6768, or police at (202) 727-9099 or you can text the TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411. Thank you for your continued support. Sincerely, Stephen Jackson Principal
