Accepting
responsibility

Group
decision
making

I was unable to listen to
others, discuss ideas and
ask questions. I did not
join my group working
towards a group
agreement.

I actively listened to others,
discussed ideas and asked
questions. I worked towards a
group agreement cooperating
well with other group
members.

Adopting a
variety of
group roles

I was unable to lead my
group. I didn’t follow
anybody else’s lead. I
need to learn how to act
responsibly in a group and
adopt different roles.

I am learning how to lead a
group and how to act when
I lead and follow.

Sometimes, I lead my
group. Sometimes, I
followed somebody else’s
lead. I knew how to act
when I led and when I
followed.

Sometimes, I lead my group
with confidence. Sometimes, I
followed somebody else’s lead
and acted respectfully and
responsibly. I knew how to act
when I led and when I
followed.

COMMUNITY REFLECTION
This goes into your portfolio (HWOO Reflection)

!
1. What did you learn from this task (being part of a community)?
I learned that it takes great responsibility to form and organise a community with other people. I
also learned that teaching young students art will improve and encourage their skills to do art.

!
!

2. What service learning did you take and how did you organise this?
I organised it by going to grade 1 and confirming the sessions. The service learning that I took was
teachingYoung students art in a fun way and I also improved their art skills. It was very fun taking
action.

!
!

3. What helped you to be successful? (think about your roles and responsibilities, planning,
communicating)
Something that helped me become successful was I convinced young students to appreciate what
they can do in art. I also took snapshots of young students doing the art project we have provided
for them and showed evidence on the email we sent to the grade 1 teacher.

4. What would you change if you had to do this task again?
I would change the way we organised the time because it was a bit to short and it was only about 30
minutes and I think it should be about 40 minutes. I would also change how we organised it because
we missed one time and we didn’t get a chance to bring young students to do art.

!
!

5. How have you incorporated sustainable action into your Service Learning?
I would put posters up and tell or give a presentation on what our community is and what we will do to
help young students to improve their art skills. I will also email teachers and and staff about our
community and tell them they can schedule a time to put their students in a time slot to work with
them. I would also ask the teachers if they have time to let us do any activity with their students.
