avoid temptation and accidents

2. Admit to mistakes I make so students can admit to theirs

3. Include all students in classroom activities
.

3. RULES AND PROCEDURES PLAN

Classroom Rules
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

Respect yourself, each other, me, and the equipment

No running
No food/drink/gum
All ideas can be explored unless they break rule #1
If teacher is talking, you arent and neither is your instrument
If you make a mess, you clean it up

Explanation of Classroom Rules (and how they will be introduced): Classroom rules
will be introduced to each class on the first day, and will be written on a poster so
students and teacher can refer to them as needed.

Classroom Procedures
1. Attention-Getting Procedure: Teacher claps, students echo
2. Start-of-Class Procedure: Students come in and echo back the welcome song of the day
3. End-of-Class Procedure: Students are invited to line up at the door in an orderly fashion to
go back to their class
4. Question-Answering Procedure: I only respond to raised hands.
5. Safety Procedures: I will check on these the first day of in-service. No running or
screaming.
6. Other Procedures: homework, lateness, absence, personal electronic devices, materials
and equipment, clean-up, transition, announcements, etc.: Homework goes in the
appropriate bucket when you come in. If youre late, come in quietly and find your spot. If
youre absent, ask me what you missed. No electronics. Students will help maintain the
room and instruments in good condition, and will put things back before they are dismissed
to their regular classes.

Explanation of Class Procedures (and how they will be taught and reinforced): Class
procedures will be introduced the first day, and reminders will be given as needed.

4. INTERVENTION PLAN
Strategies for Responding to Misbehaviour:
1. 1st ofence gets a warning, either verbally or by pointing at the rules on the board
2. 2nd ofence gets a quiet conversation
3. 3rd ofence gets the student a time-out either in the designated corner or the
hallway, followed by a private conversation about the incident.
4. If necessary, outside assistance (teacher mentor, principal, parents) or some kind
of behaviour plan might be introduced.

Justification/Explanation of Strategies: A first ofence that isnt repeated is probably

a single instance of the student forgetting appropriate classroom behaviour, and
shouldnt be made into a big deal. Repeated instances of the same ofence indicate
a larger problem, and as the teacher I need to figure out whats causing the
problem before I can solve it, but I also need to remove the student so they dont
disturb other students learning.
Relation of Strategies to School Policies and Procedures: Strategies follow school
policy.
