Annotated Bibliography
A list of citations to books, articles, and documents is what we call an annotated
bibliography. Theses citations come from different sources where a person gathers information
and put them in small summaries, usually with bout 100-150 words in each paragraph. The main
reason of annotation is to inform the reader the importance, accuracy, and quality of the cited
sources.
In an annotated bibliography, people choose a website, book, magazine, journal, or an
article that contains useful information of the topic they have chosen and briefly review the
actual information that fits the topic to annotate it. An annotated bibliography does not
necessarily require a person to go into details on what they are discussing or writing about.
However, it does require one to provide information that fits into the topic the person is
discussing and provide some explanation or examples if possible.
To cite an annotated bibliography using the correct format, a person must see the
instructor to find out which style can be used or is preferred generally for the class. Some of the
correct formats or tools that can be used to cite an annotated bibliography especially online
include: Modern Language Association (APA), and American Psychological Association (APA).
