Division is
UK/ SL -based architecture practice, founded in 1994 by
M Ekanayake. The firm originally focused on
Architectural and Engineering and Cost Consultancy
Services. Later 20 s they expand as a professional services
firm which provides architectural design, engineering,
interior design, urban design, sustainable design, construction management, quantity
surveying, cost consulting and building information modeling services. Now the Division is a
multidisciplinary architecture, planning, estimating and design firm well established in
Colombo Sri Lanka.
Design and Architecture
In their early years of practice, the partnership became well known throughout South Asia for
their crisply detailed houses in Sri Lanka. In 2000, after years of practice they decided to
focus on public and commercial architecture rather than houses. In early 2001 they enter in to
Public building sector their first successful project was Housing project at Monaragala
,South part of Sri Lanka ,Won by Public Housing competition in 2001. It was created by large
vertical spaces and with a simple design. By opening up the elements of the building and
creating natural ventilation, Division were proposing a new model for tropical architecture
and a passive, structural solution to the problems of sustainability. These ideas were
subsequently adapted to a series of completed apartment towers and public buildings

The firm's core activity was the provision of Capital Project Services which represented 90%
of the company's total turnover. Capital Project Services comprised Design and Architecture.
Project Management and Cost Consultancy as well as a broad range of other construction and
property services including health & safety, services engineering, program planning and
dispute resolution., The firm was a privately owned limited company, owned by both its
employees and an employee share ownership trust. One of the firm's last projects was Villa
hotel project, Tangalle, South coast Sri Lanka, South Asia
