FFA Officer Team
On August 26th we went through the
election process for our new FFA Officers.
Below is a picture of the newly elected
Havana High School FFA Chapter officers

Horse Judging Contest
On Wednesday, September 11, Havana High
School FFA members Brandi Ferree and Eileen
Urish attended the Section 12 Horse Judging
Contest held at the Delevan Horse Arena.
There they judged Halter, Western Pleasure,
Hunt Seat Pleasure, and Western
Horsemanship classes. These FFA members
learned to evaluate horses based on their
form and function.

LTS and Chapter Visit

Pork Chop Lunch & Bake Sale
The Havana FFA Chapter had their first pork
chop lunch and bake sale on September 12th,
2013. The chapter plans on trying to have a
monthly Pork Chop Lunch and Bake Sale for both
the students and staff at Havana High School.

Havana FFA Alumni Established
The Havana FFA Alumni Chapter was established
in August, where officer elections were held.
The current Alumni Officers are Bill Knake as
President, Paul Jockish as Vice President, Tony
Gathman as Secretary and Cody Zeeck as
Treasurer.

The Section 12 FFA Leadership Training School
(LTS) was held September 25, 2013 at the
Farmington High School. The nine FFA
Chapters attending consisted of 110 current
FFA Chapter Officers & advisors. Introductions
were made by the Section 12 FFA Officer team,
President-Gracia Ramp, Vice-President-Max
Havens, Secretary- Cassidey Tarter. TreasurerSara Jones, Reporter-Jordan Breedlove and
Sentinel-Ryan Heavilin. Guest Keynote speaker
was State Vice-President, Rachel Hawk.
The purpose of this training taught leadership
responsibilities while learning skills that can
help their FFA Chapter as well as help each
individual member. Each Section 12 FFA
Officer explained their officer duties and
provided team building exercises.
Rachel Hawk, Jordon Breedlove and Gracia
Ramp visited Havana High School to work on
several group building activities with the FFA
Chapter Officers as well as the students of the
Agriculture classes.

FFA Ag Plot

May 8, 2013 the Havana High School FFA Chapter
planted a corn research plot. Mark Roskamp
donated fertilizer and chemicals in addition to
planting 9.5 acres of various corn hybrids.
The research plot consisted of 21corn varieties
that taught the students as well as farmers
valuable information such as the differences in
corn hybrid genetics and the tolerance to different
diseases to grow the most profitable corn suited
for Mason County.
The 12 companies that donated seed were Great
Lakes, Golden Harvest, Catalyst, Phoenix, Becks,
Burrus, Stone Seed Group, Agri Gold, Wyffles, LG,
DEKALB, and Nutech.
September 17, Todd Hodgson, Paul Jockisch, and
Mark Perkins in conjunction with the Havana FFA
Members, harvested and collected data from each
variety planted. The winning corn variety was
furnished by AgriGold A6517. Followed by DEKALB
63-33, AgriGold A6573, LG 5607, and Becks 5475.

Homecoming Parade

The Havana FFA Chapter made a float for the
Homecoming Parade. This year's theme was
Superhero's. The FFA Chapter teamed up with
the art club to create a battle of good vs. evil.
The Art club members dressed up as different
villains while the FFA members dressed up as
superhero's. Multiple times during the parade
both the Art club and FFA members would
battle each other. This creativity earned 1st
place for both the Art Club and the FFA
Chapter.

Land-Use CDE
October 1, 2013 the Havana FFA Chapter hosted the
Section 12 Soil Judging Contest. The soils
competition tested students knowledge of land
description sub-categories that included slope,
erosion or depth of topsoil, texture of surface soil,
depth of soil and natural drainage ability.
The seven member team consisted Rachel Fornoff,
Blake Stephns, Ashby Thomas, Hayden Picket,
Eileen Urish, Nick Welker, Kevin Bonnett. The
Section 12 schools divided their students into teams
where each student was scored individually and as a
team. Congratulations to Hayden Picket who placed
10th individually overall. Havana FFA Team placed
6th out of the 11 teams participating.
Thank You to Cody Zeeck, Mark Jacobs, and Ross
McDowell for assisting the Havana FFA Chapter with
a successful competition.

National FFA Convention
On October 30, 2013 twelve Havana High School
FFA Chapter Members and both FFA Advisors
traveled to Louisville, KY. These FFA members
were among 62,998 attending the 86th National
FFA Convention & Expo. The FFA mission is to
make a positive difference in the lives of
students by developing their potential for
premier leadership, personal growth and career
success through agriculture education.

FFA Barn Dance
In November, The FFA Chapter hosted a Barn
Dance for all High School Students. The dance
took place in the bus barn, which was
transformed to look like the inside of barn.
Students also had the opportunity to sit around
a fire pit to roast some marshmallows as well as
take a glass in the shape of a barrel for a
souvenir.
