State FFA Convention
The 86th Illinois State FFA convention was
held on June 10th-13th at the Prairie
Capital Convention Center in Springfield, IL.
This year's theme for the week long
festivities was Planting Your Potential.
The FFA members from Havana Chapter who
were in attendance where David Rhinehart,
Cole Hodgson, Eileen Urish, Tori Specketer,
and Dalton Vestal.
The Chapter completed a Scrapbook that
showed the activities for the year. The
Scrapbook was submitted to be judged, and
it received a gold rating.
Eileen Urish received a Gold rating and was
in the top 10 individuals for the Outstanding
Chapter Reporter award. Due to this award
she was able to work in the First Farm
Credit Newsroom to take pictures and
reports for the General Sessions at State
Convention.

On Tuesday night there were approximately
800 FFA members who attended the FFA
dance in the Illinois building at the Illinois
State Fair grounds. Wednesday night the
Havana FFA Chapter along with other FFA
members went to the Robin Roberts
Stadium to watch the Springfield Sliders
baseball game. It was FFA night and the
special guest was Justin Allgaier the NASCAR

Sprint Cup Driver. FFA members were able to
meet Justin as well as get a close up look of
the Brandt NASCAR racing car.

FFA Leadership Camp
Eileen Urish represented the Havana FFA
Chapter at the 2014 state leadership camp for
a week in Monticelo, IL. The students arrived
at camp on July 21st and left on the 25th.

The Illinois Major state officers, Andrew Kline,
Renee Kinzinger, and Willow Krumweide, as
well as all 25 section presidents were present
at camp. Each State officer and Section
president were group leaders and mentors for
the 320 FFA members that attended camp.
Mrs. Skien and several Ag teachers from across
the state volunteered as Camp Staff for the
week.

Eileen Urish along with 300 other members
received a scholarship of some form to pay
for all costs for camp. Eileen received hers
from the Illinois FFA Alumni Association.

Eileen Urish showed her swine project.
She brought to the show two Berkshire
barrow and one Hereford barrow along
with two Berkshire gilts and one
Hereford gilt. She received showman
ship and grand champion pair of gilts.

The FFA members had a week of learning
leadership skills but also building
friendships and learn more about
themselves. The students learned many
new ideas that they could bring back to
their local FFA chapters and clubs.
The 4H memorial campsite offered a
teambuilding obstacle course that involved
climbing a vertical wall, a trust fall and so
much more.

Section 12 FFA Fair
The Section 12 FFA fair was July 26th at the
Fulton Co. fair grounds. Graduated Senior,
Rachel Fornoff showed her beef project. She
had one Hereford heifer and won Champion
Hereford.

Upcoming FFA Events
The new Havana FFA Officer team will
be elected in the beginning of
September.
The FFA Chapter will be running
concessions for home Volleyball games.
The Havana chapter plans on attending
the following events this fall:
Sept 3rd - District Star Conference
Sept 10th - Horse judging
Sept 16th - Greenhand conference
Sept 17th -Leadership Training School
Sept 23rd - Forestry
Oct 7th - Land Use
Oct 29th-31st - National FFA Convention
Nov 11 - Ag sales
Nov 20th - Agronomy and grain fair.
