Objective:
Use the BEx Query Designer to create your own queries
Change existing queries
Open queries in the BEx Analyzer and in a Web browser
Prerequisites:
Install SAP GUI 710 and Business Explorer
See SAP GUI 710 and Business Explorer Installation Guide.
Query Designer Step by Step:

Task 1:
You are interested in finding out the incoming order values and the incoming order
quantities of your customers for specific materials between March and June
1998. You want to enable the users of your report to select by specific countries.
Create a new query using the SAP Demo Cube 0D_DECU with the
characteristic Sold-to party (0D_SOLD_TO) in the row Billed Quantity
(0D_INV_QTY) and Costs (0D_COST) in the column.

2. In the Microsoft Excel BEx

toolbar, choose Tools Create
New Query.
3. Choose the BW7 IDES system

E-learning and click on the OK
button.
Note: The system name maybe
different on your PC. Just
choose the one you defined
for BW7 IDES system.

4. Logon with your user ID and

password when prompted.
Note: Please using your
assigned ID to replace ##
5. The BEx Query Designer

opens, to create a new query,
choose the icon New Query
from the toolbar or Query
New.

6. Click Find on the left and

then set Display Object Name
as to show object technical
name.
7. Enter either the technical

name or description of the
InfoProvider as search criteria.
Here, we use the technical name
0D_DECU, check the box

Search in Technical Name and
click Find on the right.
8. Select that InfoProvider and

choose Open.
9. Click on Technical Names to

show the technical name.

10. From the Customer

dimension, transfer the Sold-to
party (0D_SOLD_TO)
into the Rows using Drag&Drop
11. From the Key Figures folder,

transfer Billed Quantity
(0D_INV_QTY)
and Costs SAP
Demo(0D_COST) into the
Columns using
Drag&Drop.
Save the query in the role Standard Authorizations for HPVL SAP eLearning
solutions:

Execute the query in the BEx Analyzer, view the results, then close the query
results (do not close the BEx Analyzer).

4. Execute the query as a

report in the BEx Analyzer by
choosing Exit and use the
Query.
5. View the results, then close

the report results without
saving them. Leave the BEx
Analyzer open for the next
exercise step.
In this step, you want to change the query definition. Find the query you
created (GR## BW305 Customer Query 1) using the search function.
In the query definition, include the material in the report in order to display
the incoming orders for each material for the customers. You also want to
filter the data with a characteristic restriction to only report data for the
months 03.1998 ~ 06.1998.

Search Method Search
in Technical Names. Enter
BW3054F## then Find.
Note: Replace ## with ID
assigned to you.
4. Select the query GR##

the characteristic Material
(0D_MATERIAL) from the
Product (0D_DECU5)
dimension into the Rows,
and position it under the
characteristic Sold-to party.

6. Choose Cal. year / month

(0CALMONTH)
Characteristic from the Time
(0D_DECUT) dimension,
and place it into the
Characteristic Restriction
area on the Filter tab page
using Drag&Drop.
7. From the context menu for

Cal year / month, choose
Restrict.
8. In the screen Select Values

for , choose Value
Ranges and then Between.

in the Direct Input
10. Transfer the selection using

the Arrow button, then click
OK.
Enable the users of your report to select data related to specific countries
Sold-toPartyCountry (0D_SOLD_TO__COUNTRY)). Then save and execute the
query. In the local view of the query, remove the material from the drilldown
and include the country in the drilldown before sold-to party to list the sold-to
parties by country. Also in the local view, restrict the country to Canada and
Germany. In order to enhance the readability of the report, suppress the
repeated key values.

6. Go to the Display options

tab page and check the box
for Suppress Repeated
Key Values. Choose OK.
7. View the results. Now it only

shows Canada and
Germany data.
In a further step, in the global definition of the query, establish the restriction
for the country to Canada and Germany as default values, and furthermore the
suppression of repeated key values. Execute the report and make a note of
which sold-to parties are listed in your report. Are you able to select other
countries in the report?
1. In order to change the global

definition of the query,
choose Tools and Edit
Query. The BEx Query
Designer opens.

area on the Filter tab page .
From the context menu for
Sold-toPartyCountry,
choose Restrict.
3. In the selection screen,

choose Single Values.
Select Canada and
Germany, and transfer the
selection using the Arrow
button. Choose OK.
4. In the Properties area of the

Query Designer choose the
GR## BW305 Customer
Query 1 object in the
dropdown-box, open the
Display tab page and check
the box for Hide Repeated
Key Values.

5. Choose Exit and Use the

Query to save and execute
the query.
6. Only those sold-to parties

for the countries in the
Default Value area of the
filter are listed in the initial
view, but it is possible to
change the filter and to
analyze the other countries
as well.
Task 2:
(Optional)
Create a report for the time period from May to June 1998 about the sales volumes
of your customers from the sales organization Germany Becker Berlin, with the
option of navigating by division, and of a drilldown for the sales volumes on the
months May to June 1998.
Define a new query, again basing on the SAP Demo Cube 0D_DECU. Include
the Sold-to Party (0D_SOLD_TO) in the rows and the key figure Billed
Quantity(0D_INV_QTY) in the columns of your query definition. Choose Sales
Organization (0D_SALE_ORG) as the global filter, restricted to Germany
Frankfurt (1000). Use Division (0D_DIV) and the time characteristic Cal.
Year/Month (0CALMONTH) as free characteristics. You are only interested in
the months March to June 1998.
