Response Paper (3/4)
Peter Singers article and Jenna Woginrichs article have similarities and differences in
ideas related to eating meat, being a vegetarian, factory farming, etc. Singers text included
statements like where he raises animals for his own table and Scruton flatly rejects factory
farming that show there are people such as Roger Scruton that are against factory farming; they
would rather raise their own animals and kill them themselves.
Coincidentally, Woginrich has the similar mindset as Roger Scruton. She says I raise
chickens and rabbits from young fluffballs in the palms of my hands and mindfully bring them to
the age of harvest when they are killed and stored for food. Woginrich obviously prefers to
raise, prepare, and devour her own food instead purchasing and eating factory farmed food; she
sees this as the less harmful way to do things.
Singer analyzes the ethical issues raised behind eating meat and gives his personal
opinions and feedback on the topic. He disagrees with the thought of humans being able to eat
meat just because they witness an animal eating meat; Singer states humans can abstain from
killing or eating fish and other animals. Woginrich takes a different approach in discussing her
reasoning behind raising, killing, and eating her own animals in comparison to other practices.

There is nothing you or I eat that wasn't once alive Woginrich puts as she explains whether
you do the same things that she does or claim to be a vegetarian.
Her argument is that no matter whether you want to face it or not, everything that is eaten
was once alive; basically when you are devouring it at the dinner table you are killing it. She
isnt convinced that anyone could call her a bad person because of what she does; according to
her everyone is pretty much doing the same thing in a slightly different way, and she is not a
murderer.
Both Singer and Woginrich use specific evidence to support their arguments in relation to
eating meat, factory farming, etc. Singers evidence is more specific in terms of actual quotes
from other individuals, facts and opinions that have been floating around for the past several
years, and then personal commentary on what he thinks about all of things that he is talking
about. I eat animals I raise myself because I want to eat local food that causes less animal
suffering and empowers my local community ;Woginrich gives more personal opinions and
information on why she does what she does, and she also keeps a solid firm attitude.
