Uterine fibroid known as leiomyoma.

Leiomyoma are benign neoplasm of the


muscular wall of the uterus composed
primarily of smooth muscle.
Fibroids may be
- Solitary
- Multiple
- Diffuse

COMPLICATION DURING PREGNANCY:

Antenatal

Intra-natal

1.Ectopic pregnancy
2.PPROM
3.Preterm labour
4. APH
5. Placenta previa
6. Placenta abruptio
7. IUGR
8.Anemia

1.Malpresentation
2. Obstructed labour
3. Primary PPH
4.Complicated
LSCS
5. Retained
placenta

Post- natal
1. Secondary PPH
2. Necrosis and
Infection
3. Poor uterine
involution

COMPLICATION IN NON-PREGNANT
WOMEN
Red Degeneration:
Very large fibroids even if silent and asymptomatic, also are
inclined to undergo a process called "degeneration", an event
which occurs if the enlarging fibroid outgrows its blood supply.
Torsion of fibroid:
This causes insufficient blood supply to the tumour
Capsular haemorrhage
Infection (UTI)
Associated endometrial carcinoma
Infertility- rare
