as directly concerned in the fulfillment of these
covenants of kindness. For, quite manifestly

no way be regarded as an expression of empty
sympathy, but must be considered an assurance, guaranteed by Almightiness, that if conditions are complied with the gifts specified

been the changes which have passed over society, the heart of man has not changed.

Man's aspirations
have not radically altered. His disappointments are neither fewer nor less bitter. Weariness still weighs on his spirits.
Indeed, if in
the matter of worry there has been any change,
it has seemingly been from great worry to
greater.
In this age, as in David's, men may
be tempted to covet wings, by which to escape
