The special appr eciat ion f or t he Var Aha Char ama slOkam can be obt ained f r om
a r eply t hat Bhagavan gave t o Sage Nar ada in Br ahma Pur ANam. The gr eat
Naar AyaNa Paar AyaNaa, Sage Nar adar asked t he Lor d:
“pr ANa pr ayANa samayE ka: (t vam) smar t um sakt a: syAt ?” Bhagvan gave a
bland answer , which did not have t he pr ecision of Var Aha Char ama SlOkam and
t he One f ound in Bhagavad Git A. I n Br ahama Pur ANam, Bhagavan held out t he
st akes high and said:
“He who t hinks of me always, will cer t ainly cr oss t his vast and f r ight ening
ocean of SamsAr A f illed wit h wat er s of gr eed and avar ice”.
“yO maam smar at i nit yasa:” is Bhagavaan’s wor ds. Dhr uva Smr it hi (ceaseless
r emembr ance) is not wit h in easy r each of all. The discipline needed, t he
dhar mams t o be f ollowed, t he Yogams t o be pr act iced ar e ar duous f or many.
That is why Kr ishna said in Git A:
