MOOSEWOOD ‘OUR BEST’ CHILI

Michael and I dated long distance for a year, which meant lots
of traveling coast and coast to see one another when we could.
In spring of 2013, I visited Michael in NH and we had a dinner
party with friends. We made this chili and it was a major hit.
We’ve made it a few times since then; most recently, for our
first housewarming party. –W.

I remember Michael made this soup for the Community Garden
Connections garden workshop, which was the first time we
actually “hung out.” We sat next to each other during lunch and
apparently cause quite the stir because of how cute we looked
together. We bonded over soup and it was the beginning of
something very beautiful. –W.

I rarely get sick but when I do, it’s as though my body has been
storing up all of its sickness for the right occasion. This fall, a
month or two after Michael and I moved in together, I came
down with a nasty cold and Michael made me this soup. It filled
the house with the warmth and comfort of my childhood home
and I swear it had magical, nourishing properties before less
than 2 days later, I was all better! –W.

My mom is an incredible cook but I would say that soups are
her specialty. She uses spices, vinegars and vegetables in
creative ways that always impress. This is one of my very
favorites in her repertoire. I’ve requested it for many birthdays
and special dinners. It was also the dish she made the first night
Michael came over for dinner. –W.

THANK YOU!
Thank you for cooking with us, teaching us, loving us, feeding us and
helping us grow and develop into the people we are today. We love
you and we cannot thank you enough for being part of our special
day. We hope this cookbook brings back memories for you as it did
for us in the development of it. We look forward to the next holiday
or Sunday afternoon when we can gather in the kitchen or around the
dinner table and reminisce about the past, present and future.
Always, Whitney

(Insert words here) -M.
