A True Story

I built a monument with the dust from my bones I filled an ocean with the memory of my venomous blood With bursts and screams so loud that they could only be seen I orphaned my children and held them up for you I fell easily; leapt into your stereotypes and black-ed, poor-ed, gay-ed, female-ed, ignorance-ed myself And then just as easily I became your father, mother, sister, brother, friend, lover I stood triumphant, proud, heroic the master of my own destiny! I begged and pleaded, prayed, cursed, embarrassed you to listen, only listen, stop and listen! But you shrugged it off, and winced, and said: “It will never hapen to me”.
