Lieutenant Governors statement

on the death of Joseph Rotman, OC
Toronto, January 27, 2015. The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of
Ontario, released this statement on the death of Mr. Joseph Rotman, OC:
I am very saddened to learn of the death of Joseph Rotman. He was a proud
and passionate Canadian and an outstanding Ontarian who made inestimable
contributions to our nation. A giant of Canadian business, Mr. Rotman was also
an enthusiastic philanthropist who donated his time, talents, and wealth across
the social spectrum. His interests were varied and many institutions in education
and research, science and technology, healthcare, arts and culture, and business
benefitted from his generosity. His vision for a better society stressed the
fundamental importance of creativity in all aspects of endeavour. I have no doubt
that he inspired many to become engaged in creating a caring and just society
through discipline and entrepreneurship.
In the name of Her Majesty The Queen, and on behalf of the people of Ontario, I
extend my sincere condolences to Josephs wife, Sandra, and family.
