Editing your writing

2 weeks

Tactile editor:

Cut up your essay into paragraphs.

Highlight the first word in each paragraph and underline the first sentence. Does the first word and sentence tell your reader what this paragraph is about
and/or how it connects to the main idea?
Highlight the common nouns and pronouns in each sentence. Do you have to many? Are there words you can use to make your writing more precise?
Highlight the punctuation in each sentence and read each sentence out loud. Do you have complete sentences or any run-ons? Is all your punctuation in
the right place?
Highlight the first letter in each sentence and the Is. Did you capitalize the first word in each sentence? The word /I/? Any proper nouns?
Last, move your paragraphs in a different order. Do you have the best order for each of your paragraphs? Does your main idea fall in your first paragraph
and then have supporting paragraphs that fall below? Do you have an introduction paragraph and a conclusion?
