Where to go next
For some seniors it is very easy to find a college to get into, for others it is very difficult
and confusing. All of the tuition and where to go has been on my mind for a long time. After high
school I will be attending one of these colleges; Indiana University- Purdue University
Indianapolis, University of Southern Indiana, or Ivy Tech Community College.
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis is located in Indianapolis, Indiana. It
also has more than 200 institutes (“Excellence in Education and Research”). Both IU and IUPUI
proved themselves dedicated to providing higher education opportunities in Indianapolis. They
merged their many programs and schools to create IUPUI Indianapolis in 1969 (“A visionary
university with humble beginnings”).
IUPUI offers programs in the liberal arts, medicine and over 200 degree programs. One
program I was looking into was their nursing and theatre arts programs. They always strive to
make getting a college education easy and affordable, by keeping tuition low. Offering
substantial amounts of financial aid, and providing programs designed to help you minimize your
University of Southern Indiana in 1965, USI enrolls nearly 9,500 undergraduate and
graduate students in 80 majors. They are located on the west side of Evansville, Indiana. It is
very convenient because it is not surrounded by a huge city and it is next to a small little place

of stores and restaurants. USI is a public college it accepts anyone if they work hard enough and
have the dedication for their education. (“Mission & Vision”).
USI offers programs through the College of Liberal Arts, Romain College of Business,
College of Nursing and Health Professions, and the Pott College of Science, Engineering, and
Education. They are a Carnegie Foundation Community Engaged University and offers
continuing education and special programs to more than 15,000 participants annually through
Outreach and Engagement. It is exciting they offer nursing programs because I have loved
helping others and I may want to go into nursing. They are also near me so I wouldn’t have to
leave home or move very far. Most students want to get as far away as they can, well that is not
the case for me. I want to stay in Indiana that is why I have so much interest in USI and their
programs. (“Performing Arts”)
Ivy Tech Community College is the state’ publics largest post secondary institution and
the nation’s largest singly accredited statewide community college system serving nearly
200,000 students annually. Ivy Tech has campuses throughout Indiana. They are affordable and
still have the education as you would at a university. Their average in each class is about 22
students through each classroom. (“Mission”).
Students can earn a degree for around $3,860 a year. Also with credits that transfer,
students can save money by completing the first two years of a four- year degree at Ivy Tech.
You can earn a degree at one of the 32 degree granting locations throughout the state, and take
classes in more than 75 communities. No matter where you live, or where you are headed, Ivy
Tech can prepare for what is to come. They offer approximately 350 classes online and 12 online
degree programs. More than 32,000 students who are currently enrolled in online classes benefit

by interacting with their classmates and learning from the same qualified instructors who teach
classes on campus (“Why Ivy Tech”).
Out of all the colleges, the best for someone to go for would have to be Ivy Tech or USI.
The reason being that is they are close to home and they have affordable prices where you do not
pay an extreme amount of money for such a short period of time.
