Trimester 1 Reflection

My biggest take away from our unit on, Whats the purpose of government?
will be my beliefs on what the purpose of government is and what the peoples
natural rights are. Before this unit, I had a weak position and weak arguments for
whether government is necessary or not. Now, I have improved my thinking about

government and its purpose and can make adequate arguments for my stance. Along
with creating and developing my opinions on government, I also learned how to
construct a persuasive argument through a PEER Outline. Overall, my thinking
about the purpose of government and also all of the topics so far in history have
definitely changed and developed majorly since the beginning of this unit.
In this class, I have learned that I am a better presenter than I thought I was; I
can keep my calm and cover all the topics assigned in a project. Compared to last
year and the years before, I think I have definitely improved at not being as nervous
in front of peers, or at least not showing it. Also, I have improved my depth of
thinking and organization in this class. I thought some of my strengths in my
Political Manifesto presentation were going deep into my topic and, in that, making
it unique. My slides were organized and I did not put too much text on them, nor did
I read off of them, but rather they were concise and I memorized my content well.
The work I have completed in this class so far has demonstrated that I
possess several of the characteristics of a Del Mar graduate. I have shown that I am a
motivated learner, show my best self, am an effective communicator, and am an
engaged citizen. I am a motivated learner and show my best self because throughout
this presentation project, I stayed focused, on task, and motivated to learn more
about the governments actions and pick a position; for or against. I am an effective
communicator because I succeeded to present and convey my beliefs regarding to
government and its current actions effectively to the audience. Lastly, I am an
engaged citizen because I researched and learned about a current government
decision and argued why I thought it was a good or bad idea.
