What is the temperature at 2 am? LO Lindsay Rupp Period: 7” February 7, 2014 Math 1050 Graphing Transform ‘After doing this project, | thought differently about real-world math applications. Before, | never thought | would use graphing transformations after high school, in everyday life. But by doing this assignment, | learned that by using simple math skills, everyone has the opportunity to have more control on the area around you. With a simple home improvement, like installing a programmable thermostat, you could improve the heating of your house during the winter. Heating your house is about forty percent of your energy bill, and by doing this you can cut down your bill, and conserve energy. You program the thermostat to get hot and cold when you need it to be, because you don’t need your house warm when you aren’t there. So you can set it so it’s not on, and cut down more of your bill. In math, when you learn one thing, usually later on, you build on something and continue to learn more and more about that math skill. We learned how to graph in 1ed to add more and more information, on how different elementary, and we have cor problems are graphed differently. So, most likely as | continue in my school career, | will add come into play again and again. ns, more information on graphing and transform: In the project, we used moved the graph up and down, and left and right, to move it according to the formal and the previous graph. By deciding whether or not the change in the formula was affecting the y coordinate or the x was the first step. If it isn’t connected to the x coordinate, like the first graph, it moved it up two points. Which made it hotter faster, and in general, for example, it was 68° at 8:00 a.m., but they when you changed it, at 8:00 a.m., it was 70°. On the other hand, if it was connected to the x coordinate, it moved it left or right, like on the second graph it moved it to the left two points. That made it so it got hotter fast, for example, it was 68° at 6:00 a.m. instead of at 8:00 a.m., before changing it.
