Tennessee’s State Mathematics Standard 6: Find whole-number quotients and remainders with up
to four-digit dividends and one-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the
properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate
and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.
Technology Standards addressed:
ISTE Standards for Students #6 Technology operations and concepts. Students demonstrate a sound
understanding of technology, concepts, systems, and operations.
Materials:
1. Math textbook, Math flash cards, Computer, Internet Browser, and Powerpoint software
Objectives:
1. After reading through
their math text book
student will create a
powerpoint explaining
the 3 basic number
properties and give
examples of each with
100% accuracy.
2. Student will list each
number property and
give at least one example
of each number property.

TEACHING:
Motivation:
Problem Statement: Who wants to be the teacher for a day? Well today you have that chance. Pretend I
am the student and I am having a hard time with number properties. So I need your help. Today you will
be the teacher and I will be the student. You will put together a powerpoint that will help me with the
number properties. You will need to include all three number properties, explain each one, and give

examples of the property. You will need to include a review and a quiz in the powerpoint tutorial. Also
include pictures.
Teacher Procedures:
Prior to the Computer
1. Teacher will explain lesson,
2.

Student Procedures:
1. Student will review textbook and flash cards
for information over number properties
2. Student will write down information from the
textbook and flash cards to use in their power
point tutorial.
3. Student will also fill out multimedia planning
sheet to help brainstorm ideas.

At the Computer
1. Teacher will monitor students and see if
anyone needs help.
2.

1.

After the Computer
Teacher will walk around looking over students
work and also see if anyone needs help.

2.

1. Student will gather pictures from the web and
other information about number properties
before creating their power point.
2. Student will create presentation with power
point. Once finished student will print out a
copy of presentation for a peer to review.
1. Student will trade presentation sheets with
another student and they will each review the
presentation, provide feedback and comments,
and give back to the students so they can
make necessary changes if needed. Student
Students will present work one by one. After
presenting students will fill out reflection
sheet.

Reflection & Transfer:
Students will fill out reflection sheets and we will have open discussion so everyone can discuss
their thoughts and feelings and what they could have done better and what things they need to
work on.

I think you did an excellent job. I would say that the powerpoint co
probably use pictures. I didn’t see any in the slides. I though
It was cool how you used the navigation buttons. That makes
Browsing the slide a lot easier. Great Job

Lessons Learned: Reflecting on My Project
1. What was good or effective in your project?

I think my project explained the properties and gave really good examples so that
the reader could grasp the concept. I think the practice and review was also helpful
to the reader.

2. How would you improve your project?
I would probably add more graphic pictures and more examples and review.

3. What did you learn from creating this project (not about software), and how can
you use what you learned in the future?
I learned how to create a tutorial that actually teaches a concept. Math is my worst subject and being able
to teach concepts in Math was a great feeling. I also learned how to add in helpful examples and reviews
which helps the reader with grasping the concept.
