Kagen preformed her first same sex

marriage in Maryland for a former
clerk and his husband.
Kagen
urged President Clinton to support

Elena Kagen

the ban on partial birth abortion.

Kagen thinks that women should

have just as many rights as men.
She believes that men and women
are equal and should be treated
that way.

Government itself is an
art, one of the subtlest of
arts

A total of nine judges make up the

Supreme Court. A Supreme Court
justice can serve until they retire
but may be taken out due to
impeachment. Justice Roberts is
the current chief justice. He was
nominated by President Gorge w.
Bush. The first bar exam was
created in 1885 in Massachusetts.

In 1989, the salary for a chief

justice was close to $115,000. The
salary for an associate justice in
1989 was 110,000. Currently the
salary for chief justice is 255,500
and the salary for associate justice
is 244,400. In some courts there
are traditions such as the quill pen.
Every
to the
pen
is

person who is new

court gets a quill
and a pewter inkwell. It
mostly used for taking
side notes during court.
Another tradition is the
conference
handshake.
The
conference handshake has been
around since the late 19th century.
When the justice assemble goes to
the bench every day at the
beginning
of
the
private
conferences each justice has to
shake hands.
