MEMORANDUM
TO: FROM: RE: FRIENDS OF KELLY AYOTTE COMMITTEE DAVE SACKETT KEY FINDINGS FROM A SURVEY OF LIKELY REPUBLICAN PRIMARY VOTERS IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

DATE:

JANUARY 26, 2010 ________________________________________________________________________ The Tarrance Group is pleased to present the Friends of Kelly Ayotte Committee with the key findings from a survey of voter attitudes in New Hampshire. These key findings are based on telephone interviews with N=504 “likely” Republican primary voters throughout the state. Responses to this survey were gathered January 13-14, 2010 and the confidence interval associated with a sample of this type is + 4.5%. KEY FINDINGS Former New Hampshire Attorney General Kelly Ayotte has a large advantage over the field in the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate. Ayotte leads all other candidates by +32 points on the trial ballot test. Forty-three percent (43%) of Republican primary voters indicate they would vote for Ayotte, and only 11% indicate they would vote for Ovide Lamontagne. Bill Binnie and Jim Bender gather only 5% and 3% of the vote respectively, and 37% of Republican primary voters are undecided. Ayotte dominates this ballot test at every level, leading all other candidates by over 30 points in every region and media market of the state. Ayotte leads on the ballot test by +38 points among women, +27 points among men, and by +41 points among seniors. Ayotte also dominates the ballot among conservatives, leading all of her other rivals by +15 points among “very conservative” voters, +23 points among pro-life voters, and by +21 among strong second amendment advocates. Ayotte also leads all of her rivals by +23 points among veterans.

Ayotte is far and away the most well known and most popular of all the candidates, with a favorable rating among New Hampshire Republican primary voters that is more than twice the size of any of her opponents. A majority of New Hampshire Republican primary voters indicate that they have a favorable impression of Ayotte, and she stands with a very strong nine to one (9:1) favorable to unfavorable ratio. By comparison, Republican primary candidate Ovide Lamontagne stands with a two to one (2:1) favorable to unfavorable ratio. ###
