This study evaluates the effectiveness of the current On-the-Job Training (OJT) program
of the Department of Accountancy of Mindanao State University- Iligan Intitute of Technology
(MSU-IIT) and the attitude of the BS Accountancy students and graduates towards the
integration of Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) system based on the variables of awareness
and perception, limitations, competence, plans and preferences, and constraints.
Survey questionnaires were administered to BS Accountancy students and graduates of
MSU-IIT through actual survey and online survey using Google Documents. Statistical analyses
were then employed to determine the relationship between the demographic profiles of students
and graduates and their level of competence acquired in their OJT and their awareness of the
OBE system. Each variable of interest was evaluated and a multiple comparison test was made
for the batches 2012-2013, 2013-2014 and 2014-2015.
Results showed that students belonging to different batches have varying level of
awareness about the OBE System. The students on the average are slightly aware while their
level of perception towards OBE System is high. Results also showed that the level of
competence acquired by the respondents during OJT is moderate and students agree that the
OBE System will improve the current OJT program of the department. The students agree with
the constraints listed in the questionnaire like lack of time for training and institutional partners
that would ensure the students reach their full potential during the OJT. The conclusions derived
from the research findings as well as recommendations were made in the context of improving
the awareness of the students and improving the current OJT program of the Department of
Accountancy in line with the implementation of OBE System.
