Good morning ladies and gentlemen.

Welcome to Brainy Montessoris Open Day

in

conjunction with our 10th anniversary. I am Augustine Dian , the founder of Brainy Montessori.
How is your day here at Brainy Montesorri today? Are you guys having a great time? I hope you
enjoy your day today. This morning I would like to give you all some tips on parenting. I
believed most of us here are parents. But do we know how to be good parents?
I will give you some tips on what does it take to be a good parent. Its not like what we have seen
in the televisions where shows the child and her parent mixes well without any problem and its
look so simple. In real life its totally different. We do not have any script to follows to be good
parents just like on the television or drama. Its all depend on us how to be good parents. I
believe most of us think that we, as parent, has done enough for our children and consider
ourselves as a good parent. Your answer might be no or maybe yes. If yes, then the talks that I
will deliver now can help to make you a batter parent than before you listen to my speech. After
having hard days at work, we should know how to adjust with different situation at home.
Nowadays, we can see that most father and mother are both working and that leave our kids
alone at home with less communication with us, as a parent. So from this talk, I hope, I can give
some tips that you can follow in order to makes us a better parent.
Being a good parent is our main goal when we entered parenthood. So we must be ready to face
all of the possible situation that might happen in the future if we fail to be a good parent.
My first tips to be good parents is self-efficacy. According to Albert Bandura self-efficacy is a
persons belief in his or her ability to succeed in a particular situation. Bandura described these
beliefs as determinants of how people think, behave, and feel (1994). We must believe in ourself
that we can be a good parent. We must belief that we can raise our won child. By having all this
belief, it will gives us as a parents strength and the confidence to be a leader at home. With this
the child will have healthy self-esteem and set a good example of self-sufficiency for the child.
For example, if both father and mothers plan to have children they must have a good
psychological state and must be ready to have kids or new family members.

Ladies and gentlemen,

To be a good parent, we must place our children first ahead of any other things that we are doing.
Placing the child first will shows him that he (the child) is important and nurtures his selfesteem. It will make him feel loved. Its not about giving the child new toys and gadgets, but
giving the child more time to spend with us. We must take note that good parent listen when the
child shares his thought and fears. We must spend more time with our child on a regular basis,
away from television and computers so that we as a parent can connect well with our kids. We
can do so by having some outing together. It is not necessary an expensive outing but just like
walk around the neighborhood together and have a chit chat with him / her. Sometimes, we can
bring our family for some vacation like go to a new place or go to our village for visiting their
grandparents. For example, I did bring my kids to the playground in the city. The visit there can
helps them to communicate with other children who are about the same age as their. This
indirectly will help them to socialize with other kids. For your information I have kids who are 3
and 5 years old.

Ladies and gentlemen,

We must know how to handle our own stress and anger. All of us have our own stress and anger
especially when we are having a hard time at work. Being a leader in this company, there is up
and down. So stress management is very important for me so that I do not bring all of those
things that matters at workplace to my house. Though sometimes I did carried away and brought
it at home.
We must know that children do not understand if we have had a hard day at work. They do know
whether their mother is worried about family finances. The children just clamor for attention and
want to be with us. If we had an older children and teens, then it will do and say things that make
us to be mad. I belief some of you may have encounter this problems. But to be a good parent,
we must know how to manage stress that comes with parenting. We must try to relax and must

let go of our anger as quickly as possible. We must forgive the child while holding the child
accountable for his own actions.

Some time as parents, we must know when time to have fun with our child. These fun activities
will both benefit to both children and parents as it will helps to relieve the stress for both children
and parents. When we are having fun time with our children, it makes more than any memories
for both sets of individuals. By making time for fun will shows the child her importance, and
models good balance between responsibility and recreation. Playing with our child when they are
young to adulthood, helps parents connect to the rapidly changing temperament and
understanding of the child. It will help both father and mother to make the right decisions for and
with the child.
Like I had said earlier, we can go for picnic, fishing and playing football with your child. These
activities will strengthen the relationships between us and our children. As we have known that
kids nowadays are more reliant on playing computer games and more towards introvert types of
attitude. Yes I know, the computer games will make our children to exposed to outside world ,
which might be dangerous to our kids. I still remember my father had bought me a computer and
game console when I was very young, so that I can be easily being monitored while at home as
compared to the outside world. But I still involve with the outdoor activities, and thats make me
who I am now. Can be easily socialized and mixes around with people.

As a parent, we must teach our children about the moral values that what one must have. We
must show and teach our children on all the values that we possess. Discuss with our children the
importance of being honest, of being fair, of being respectful, of caring for each others and of
being patient and understanding. Model all these values for them, as children ar astute in
watching how adult behave and imitating that behavior. Whatever our spiritual beliefs may be,
teach them to your children in a way that they can understand. By doing these things, you are
laying an important foundation that will guide your children throughout their lives. For example,
if you are in Christian religion, you can bring your children to the church on Sunday and send

them to the Sunday class during weekend. By doing so, the children will always keep in their
mind that every Sunday they must go to the church to pray
Ladies and gentlemen,
A good parent will always set reasonable expectations on what the children need to achieved. It
is very important because that will help to build their future. Children like to know what is
expected of them, so the consistency is very important. For example if you have a kid who is
studying in elementary school, you must make sure that they can do a minimum of three basic
skill that is reading, calculating and writing. Yes if they have lots of As in their exam it will be a
great achievement from them.
We must also try to develop a daily routine, such as time for meals, playtime, naptime and time
to do revisions and homework. Children will feel comfortable if they know what is coming next.
Likewise, try to be consistent in how you expect your children to behave. Showing your children
the right behavior is an important part of parenting. Depending on our childs age, you can
discuss your expectation with them. But like I had said before, it must be realistic, and know
what your child is capable of at different ages. For instance, if your young children do not
understand your directions clearly, so you have to model or communicate your request to them. A
good communication is very important. For example, instead of saying, Your room is a mess,
you can say, Lets clean your room together and Ill show you how to do it. Young children
also have a limited attention span, so doing most things for more than ten minutes is unrealistic.
Be positive with your children, make chores into game, and reward them with praise when they
do things well.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Have you ever read for your children? If you have read for your children, then it is good for
your child. By reading to your child, even at an early age, you are helping your child to develop
language. You can go to the library to check out books, and ask the librarian for age appropriate
book for your child. What I mentioned here is traditional old fashion ways. You can now get
book or we called it e-book from the internet too. But remember, you need to help your children

to select the books that he or she is interested in, although at times you may need to provide
guidance. Reading on a daily basis will help to develop the joy of reading in your child. If your
child does not seem interested in a book that you are reading, dont push, but try something else
some other time.
For a two year old, books with bright pictures that name things and tell simple stories are
appropriate. Three year olds also like naming books, rhyming books and simple story books.
Four and five year olds can listen to longer stories, but you must make sure he or she is interested
in the story. Show your child the right way to hold a book, and point out the illustration as you
read, so your child will realize that the story and the illustration go together. If you read the
stories online, follow the print of your finger, so that your child will understand that the story you
are reading comes from those words. Ask your child to connect what you are reading to his or
her own experiences. Encourage your child to talk and explain new words. By doing so, it will
help to increase his or her vocabulary. Ask your child to retell favorite stories or even read it to
you. Try to encourage your children to use his or her own words. We must remember that,
children enjoy hearing the same story over and over again. Reading with your children is a way
to spend valuable time together, and to foster the foundation of literacy skills.

Besides of all of the tips thats I have given above, I would like to add one more useful tips, that
is we should encourage them to be responsible. We must know that, even young children can
learn to be responsible for them and to be helpful. By the time we feel that they are ready, we
should try to encourage them to dress themselves or to help clean up their own toys around the
house and to help with other minor household chores. It is easier to teaches them when they are
younger to do all these things as it will establish their good habits. However, if it is dangerous for
them to do it, then we might do it for them. But if not, we just monitor them and let them do it.

Ladies and gentlemen,

We must know how that when the time come, our children will become an adult and will not
need the guidance of us every day. We must know how to let it go. We would have difference

approach when our child starts to grow older. They may starts to leave our home and live
elsewhere. We should not feel bad or dread but we must look forward and celebrate. This is
because when the child starts to try to be independent and its shows we had done a very good job
in nurturing and guiding to be a person that has something to be proud off.

I think all of you will be laughing at me I tell you that my parent still treat me as a teenager
even I am 42 years old and a father of 2 kids. Now I know why they treat me like that. They are
care for me. Will I be acting the way they did to me, to my kid? Well, only time will tell.

I guess thats all from me. Be good parents. I hope all of the tips thats I had mentioned in my
speech will be beneficial to you and your family. Remember that being a good parent to our
children will make them want to be like us or even better when they have their own.
