[1.01] Introduction
Welcome to my 52nd guide, and these guides are starting to pile up into a
sizable amount. As players would know, I've written for the previous game,
the first Restaurant Empire. Despite the graphics, that basically make this
game an updated version, it is more than that, it is more interesting, with

three more types of restaurants, a German Restaurant, Coffee House and Dessert
House being able to be built, as well as access to a new city, Munich in
Germany.
Anyway, whether you like the changes or now, this is a brand new game, with
the same campaign, and a brand new one. However, let me say it now, I will
not deal with the campaigns, there are many ways that you can deal with it,
and all of them can be covered in a section that will detail how to run a
successful restaurant, and that should cover that.
Anyway, time to dine in.

[2.01] Starting Up
Well, a lot of the basics have been covered in the manual, and given the game
is mostly the same as the first game, it will suffice to just read the manual
for the first game as well. Given that this guide isn't to rehash what the
manual has written, it will just cover the basics.

First, to start a restaurant, or start up a new restaurant, you will need to

buy some land, or an existing building. There are a few important factors to
take into consideration. First of all, there are the baics, which is size of
the lot, and price. Obviously, size is the amount of room that you have to
build your dream restaurant in, and the price, is well, the price in which
you need to pay in order to build on it and start a restaurant.
The lot itself will get two factors that you will need to understand, the
view rating and the traffic volume. The view rating starts off the same, it
won't really matter, but traffic volume does. Traffic volume basically says
the amount of potential customers. The higher the traffic volume, the more
customers you will have, and that is pretty much that.
Now that you have a building, you will need to build up a restaurant. You
will need several rooms. For most restaurants, you will need a male and female
restroom and a kitchen. For the Coffee House, you will need a Counter Area,
but more on the individual restaruants later.
The size of the kitchen all depends on how many people you think you will
be serving. Obviously, you will need a lot of equipment if you serve a lot of
people, and the same goes for the opposite.
After this, you will need to place tables and decorate the place. This is
rather important, no tables means no customers for you. Decorate it, and make
sure that it is well lit up in terms of lighting. And then open your
restaurant up.
Then, hire some servers, who will serve the food, captains, who take the
customer's orders and gives them the bill, the chefs, who cook the food, the
kitchen porters, who wash the dishes, and the receptionist, who greets the
people.
Of course, this is the basic version, a more in-depth section later, mainly
because this is rather, well, simplistic.
*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*
[2.02] Making Money
To make money in this game, it is rather simple. You need to make more money
by selling food than it costs to serve the food. Sure, it is easy to have
the price of the food outweigh the cost of ingredients, but there are many
factors to take into count.
You need to take into account that wages of your staff need to be paided. This
is the single biggest contributor to your expenses. To make this as low as
possible, whilst maintaining morale, you need to play around with the wages,
changing them so that morale is high, roughly greater than 80, but if you can
maintain 100, then more power to you. With that, you need to reduce the wage
to the point that any lower, they will lose morale. And that is the price you
should keep them at. Don't worry, they won't flee from you, therefore, you
don't need to worry about losing them to the competition.
The next contributor will be maintenance. This is where the cost of all the
items in your restaurant start to add up. So when you plonk down that
expensive painting, you need to understand that every month, you will need to
pay money to maintain it. This can add up to a lot, so only spice up the
insides of the restaurant if you can afford it.
Another factor will be the cost of goods sold, this is basically the
ingredients cost. Now, you can change this on the recipe bar, you can reduce

the quality of the ingredients and lower the price, but this will lead to a
lower quality dish, which might turn out to be a problem. When you get
secret suppliers, this will lead to a higher quality product, but at a higher
price, more often than not.
Live performances can turn up to be a cost, but more on these later, in a
more indepth look at the rating system. Other expenses are advertising and
training, but again, these will be looked at later, because they need a
section for themselves.
The only way to increase your money stream is to either sell more in terms of
meals or to increase the price. Generally, you can get away with a small
price rise, but you need to make sure that no one is complaining. Basically,
the higher quality the dish, the more you can squeeze out of it, so when you
have secret suppliers deliver some ingredients, use them and increase the
price of the dish a fair bit, not only to compensate the extra cost of the
ingredient, but to make a bit more profit.
*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*
[2.03] Different Restaurants
In the first game, there were only three restaurants, French, Italian and
American restaurants. Now, things have changed a little, there are 6
restaurants.
The original cuisine based restaurants remain, French, Italian and American
restaurants still exist, but now, you can also build restaurants that cater
to German cuisine. This is the same as the previous three restaurants, but
rather will specialise in, as you can guess, German cuisine. They have a
complete recipe list, breakfast, soups, appetizers, main courses and desserts,
the whole nine yards.
The last two are different, they are the Coffee Houses and the Dessert Houses.
These are different mainly because of how they operate, with the former
restaurants, you can expect an appetizer/soup, main and then a dessert, with
these restaurants, it is completely different. The customers will normally
order a set of drinks or desserts, it is not very predictable, and as such,
you cannot set meals for it.
The second thing is that you can expect a diner at cuisine based restaurants
to spend a lot of money, but when the Coffee and Dessert houses, the customers
will spend very little. However, there are advantages to these restaurants.
The food is quick to prepare, which can save you on chef wages, and they are
fast to eat and fast to exit, which will lower maintence somewhat, but they
do get a lot of traffic, mainly to compensate the low prices, everyone has a
sweet-tooth.
Of course, this again, is an overview, a more in-depth section will come
later, I don't wish for this to become an imposing wall of text.
*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*
[3.01] Restaurant Rating
The restaurant rating is the amount of stars that your restaurant will have.
Basically, 10% in rating will lead to half a star, so a rating of 50% will
mean 2 and a half stars, so if you want 5 stars, you will need to have a
rating of 100%.
Luckily, you don't need to be the best in everything to get the luxurious
5 star rating, you can function on 4 stars easily. Rating is nothing but an

average of all the factors of your restaurant. You will find that your rating
will be the highest when your day starts, but as the day goes on, complaints
will slowly erode your rating. My restaurants usually average about 93% in
the morning, but by the end of the day, they have dropped by 10%, due to the
complaints bar.
Now, the rating is made up of 3 positive factors and lowered by the 2 negative
factors. The 3 positive factors that will raise your rating is the food,
service and the environment bars. Food contributes the most, followed by the
service, and finally, the decor. Your goal is to keep this as high as
possible, the higher, the better.
The 2 negative factors include price and complaints. Price is the cost of the
food, the higher it costs, the higher this tab will be. Complaints is also
similar, the more complaints and the more serious they are, the higher the
rating here. Price will effect the rating the most, complaints is just behind,
but not by a lot. The goal is to keep this as low as possible.
Rating only has one single value on the gameplay mode, in sandbox at least.
It is that rating will determine exactly what outside environment items
that you can add onto your restaurant. However, the items stop at 4 star, so
after that, there isn't much use. But you can use the rating as a general
indicator of how well your restaurant is doing, anything that is over 80%
is considered good.
However, don't let the ratings dictate what you do, it's all about the bottom
line, the profit.
*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*
[3.02] Food
The Food rating is the biggest of the ratings in terms of effect. There are
two ways to improve this, and only two, one you can change immediately, but
will rely on events to occur, the second will take time.
The first method is to improve the recipe. The better quality of ingredients
that you are using for your recipes, the better the quality of your
dishes. As such, you should use the best ingredients, but make sure that
you pass on the cost, but not too much. The best ingredients will come from
the secret suppliers. Secret suppliers come from events, they are people
that will offer their secret location for a small fee, normally about $5000,
but they are well worth it, they will offer ingredients that have a higher
quality than your 3 star ingredients that you can normally get. You can
replace the normal ingredient with those supplied by your supplier if they
sell that ingredient.
The second way is the skill of your chef, obviously, the more skilled your
chefs are in making a recipe, the better they will be at preparing a higher
quality dish. They will develop their skill over time, and this is the hard
part, the skill is not universal, there is a skill for each dish. So it will
take years before they are excellent at cooking it. There are some event
customers who will turn up and give you some pointers, which will increase
your skill in cooking those dishes for your chef and fellow chefs.
The aim is to have this value as high as possible, you want to have the best
dishes that you can possibly serve.
*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*
[3.03] Service

Service reflects the skill of your staff. This is all influenced by the
skill of your staff. In particular, the skill of your non-chef staff. Your
customers will rate the service of your non-chef staff by their skill, and
this is accessed on your staff menu, and you can see the skill bar of each
staff member.
Your service is important, it is just under food in terms of importance. Your
receptionists who greet the customers, the captains who take the orders, the
servers who deliver the food and the porters who wash the dishes, all these
staff will influence the service bar.
There is a way to improve the service. For the small cost of $50,000 a month,
you can set training on maximum. This is set under your Information Centre
tab, under Management, and then the Training tab. You will see the average
skill level, so keep the training up until your service is at the best.
Note that this was covered in the manual, but the amazing number of emails
that I received about this in the first game amazes me. It reflects that the
manual is next to useless because no one reads it.
*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*
[3.04] Environment
Finally, there is the environment, though this is the smallest in terms of
contributor, mainly because it is easy to manage, however, it is also because
there are 4 different factors for environment. This makes it a bit more
complicated. The factors are Decoration, Comfort, Exterior and Outside and
your Live Performances.
Decoration is how beautiful or ugly your restaurant looks. Most of your points
will be obtained by what tables you use, and then what decorations that you
will place on the table. Make sure that you use the best table. Those you need
to take note that there are new secret suppliers of furniture, they appear
like the secret suppliers, so keep an eye out for them. For the fee of about
$3000, they will give you the location for you. So constantly upgrade your
furniture. This will also extend to decorations that you hang on the walls or
place on the side. This is the biggest contributor to the environment score.
The next biggest contributor is comfort. This is handled solely by your
tables. This is basically how comfortable the seating in your restaurant is.
The more comfortable the seating, the higher this score. Again, you won't
exactly have the best in terms of seating in the beginning, but as the secret
furniture suppliers come along, you will get more in terms of comfortable
seating.
The next contributor will be exterior and outside appearance. This is handled
by your location in the city, the best locations will get a better score. This
is determined by your view rating of your lot, and the next are the restaurant
upgrades. These are obtained by a higher star level, and they continue up to
4 Stars. The more stars, the more upgrades. These will upgrade your exterior
appearance, for a small fee.
Finally, there is the live performance. This is another new addition. First,
you will find that all restaurants will now have performance stages. The
stage will initially be empty, but again, there will be performers that will
turn up to your restaurant and offer their services. With the stage, you can
set their performance times, their hours, when they start, etc. The rating
is based on the rating of the performer, the more stars they have, the
higher the rating. However, higher stars means more money to pay for their
services.

And that covers the Environment rating.

*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*
[3.05] Price
Now with the negatives. Price is the biggest factor, this can single handedly
take down a rating like no tomorrow. Basically, this is the price of your
menu, the more expensive the food, the higher this rating, regardless of how
good your food is. This means that you want a high food rating to cover the
price rating.
In sandbox mode, they will generally stay static at 50%, which is a good and
bad thing, good if you have high prices, bad if you have low prices. This is
determined by your discount rating. The higher the discount, the lower your
price bar. The rule is that 5% discount equates to a nice 2.5% off the 50%
initial price bar. So a 20% discount will lead to a 40% price bar, which can
be worth it, but the problem is that you will lose some money.
How you want to play the game is fine, but price is a nice way to increase
the rating, but at the cost of some profit. Your choice. Though you can
charge a higher price if that leads to more profit, and then offer a discount.
Well, really, it isn't much of a discount.
*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*
[3.06] Complaints
The last of the ratings bars, complaints is a big factor, considering it can
easily reach the 100% bar. Complaints are the general grumblings of the
customers. There are many things to comaplin about, including the quality of
the wait-staff, the time it takes for the food to arrive, anything and
everything.
The most common complaint, when you have a well established restaurant, will
actually be several. There will be complaints ranging from how noisy your
restaurant is, how long it takes for the food to arrive, how cold their food
is, and how bad the food is.
Noise is a tricky problem, mainly because if you think about it, you need to
use partitions between every single table to reduce the noise rating. However,
to do that, you will cause a lot of slow food as your waiters and the
customers, due to poor AI scripting. So you can't win either way. And before
you say have less customers, you will make less money, not enough to cover
your expenses.
Long food is something you really can't handle. You can hire a maximum of 10
waiters, and on a large block, with about 110 seats, and nearly 90% capacity,
you will be hard pressed to not have to wait. Again, there is just too much
stuff blocking the way of the waiters, and the poor AI to boot.
To be honest, you might as well ignore this one. It will only effeect you in
the beginning, but it is more or less useless later in the day. Again, it
is a contributor to your rating, but again, your rating, after unlocking all
the exterior upgrades, is useless, more or less.
*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*
[4.01] Events
In your day to day running of the restaurant, there are events that can take
place, indicated by the flashing red light button that you get to play with.

Lets go through who can possibly visit your restaurant.

First of all, you will have offers for you to access secret suppliers. These
are one of the most important visitors that you can get, mainly because you
get to access higher quality ingredients through these people. It will
generally cost $5000 to access these suppliers, but it well worth the cost
to do so.
The next sort of event comes in the form of the secret furniture suppliers.
There always seems to be some exotic furniture stuck at the docks, and for
the small fee, about $3000, you cna get some nice furniture for your
restaurant, these this is normally better than your stock furniture that you
can access initially.
Another event would be performers. These are people who will come and offer
their skills as performers, and this is quite useful if you are looking to
boost that live performance bar. These generally don't cost anything to
access however, which is nice.
Now, moving from those who can improve your restaurant to those who can
improve your dishes. For a fee, your guest can teach you and your fellow
chefs in the restaurant techniques to improve a dish. The cost of the
boost will depend largely on the amount of points the dish is improved by,
the more you have it improved, the more it will cost you.
From bad dishes to good dishes, there will be customers that will ask for
your chefs to teach them secret skills, how they make a dish delicious.
This will apply to dishes that are well done, and the better your chef's
skill in preparing the dish, the more they are willing to offer. Basically,
it is a reverse on the above visitor.
Next are the visitors that are selling ingredients. These ingredients are
necessary if you are planning to make favourite dishes for customers, and
want to make it perfect, as to attain the luxurious max happiness rating.
This will be done for a fee, and stored in your chef's inventory, and you
can access it when you are cooking for a favourite dish.
Finally, there are visitors that are selling mysterious items. These are
normally cookbooks, that will improve the skill of chef in a particular
type of cuisine. But that is not all they will sell, they will sell morale
boosting items that you can use on any member of staff and you can purchase
books that will increase skill of non wait-staff. Keep your eye on these
visitors, they will sell you items for a food fee. And on the cookbooks,
they will boost your skill in all the recipes for a certain type of
cuisine, listed on the cookbook, all recipes for a cuisine, so it is really
useful. But these guys don't come often.
In terms of which visitors will come often, it will likely be something
like this. The top two will vary depending on the age of the restaurant, a
new, established restaurant with new chefs will have the second visitor
pop up more than the first, but established restaurants will see things a
bit differently.

[5.01] Restaurant Types
There are 6 different restaurants, there are the original French, Italian and
American restaurants, which were introducted in Restaurant Empire 1, but there
are 3 more restaurants that have been added.
For now, let me classify the original French, Italian and American restaurants
as Cuisine based restaurants. These restaurants are simple, you will have
access to have 5 menus, a Breakfast, Appetizers, Soup, Main Course and the
Dessert menu book.
One of the new restaurants is another Cuisine based restaurant, the German
cuisine. It will have it's own breakfast, appetizer, soup, main course and
dessert recipes.
However, there are two different restaurants as well. There is the Coffee
House and the Dessert House. These houses are not as time based as the
Cuisine restaurants, but more on that in the next section.
The Coffee House specialises in drinks mainly, so as a result, profits will
be low, but customers will be high and there will be a quick seat turnover,
which means that customers are in, eat quickly, and are out faster.
The Dessert House specialises in sweet dishes, desserts. This will always
make some money, but again, it won't make a lot, but, like the Coffee House,
it has a high customer turnover.
Cuisine restaurants are the best ones to own if you
money. You can get ingredients cheaply and set high
of income will be in the main dishes, the rest will
profit margin. However, customers are slower to get
compensate for that with more tables.

are trying to make

prices. Your main source
have a slightly lower
out, so you'll need to

So how you want to play this is up to you. More profit means you'll head
to the more cuisine based restaurants, but if you want a steady flow of
customers, you'll be more inclined to choose the Coffee and Dessert Houses.
It's your call.
*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*
[5.02] Restaurant Hours
There are opening hours that you can set for your little restaurant. This
will be useful in knowing what your profits will be. Timing is key, because
you will then be able to understand why your restaurant is empty at some time,
whilst others are full.
Between the hours of 6AM, which is the earliest time you can start, and until
about 10AM, it will be classified as breakfast. This is the time your
breakfast menu will kick into effect, so expect high sales in terms of your
breakfast menu, and breakfast-type beverages, such as coffee and tea.
From 10AM to 12PM, it will be classified as Morning Tea. This is where it
will start to be mixed, there will be some still using the breakfast menu,
with the breakfast beverages, but it will start to move into the lunch
service.
From 12PM to about 4PM, it will be lunch time. This is where your diners will
come in for lunch, and they will generally order an assortment of dishes,

normally a soup OR appetizer, main course and then dessert. Drinks will be a
cheaper alcohol, so it will be a good time to make money. The peak of
customers will hit at about 2PM, check the capacity of your restaurant of
this time to see how well you are doing. Capacity above 80% means you will
have some problems with the Dinner service.
Between 4PM and 6PM will be afternoon tea, it will be interesting. Normally,
you will get soup and appetizer requests, very few main courses and desserts
will be ordered. This is a time for you to check up on any problems that may
have taken place during your lunch service. This is the time, for most people
in the hospitality industry, to take a break. Between lunch and dinner, you
need a break, before things get hectic.
After 6PM, it will be dinner time. This is where you will make a hell of a
lot of money, and capacity will be an issue, especially around 8-9PM. Your
customers will order an appetizer, a soup, main course and then dessert, with
some drinks, most likely to be wine.
However, this timing is about cuisine based restaurants. For the Coffee and
Dessert Houses, the timing is irrelevant. For all coffee houses, it will
generally be 2 drinks with a food dish, and for dessert houses, it will be
a range from 1 to 3 desserts.

[5.03] Restaurant Success
The success of your restaurant is dependent on what type of restaurant you
are running. But by and large, success is obtained the same way, you need to
cut down expenses whilst making as much money, gross profit, as you can. That
should not come at the cost of popularity however, remember, screw them over
too much, and the customer flow may stop.
Generally, you can only start to make money when you have fully trained staff,
so you will need to have fully trained staff before you can do much. Full
training will cost $50,000 a month, so it is quite a fair amount. Next is
the advertising cost. This will raise customer awareness, which is quite
important, but I'll talk about that later. Anyway, when you can get about 50%
customer awareness, only from advertising, then that is a low more money off.
I suggest that advertising should be kept about $10,000 a month, to maintain
your awareness.
Now, what to put on your menu. You can do the easy thing and put everything
on your menu, but that leads to too much diversity. If you want to limit what
you put in your menu, then up the dishes that offer the most money based on
the cost price. So find the dishes with the highest default prices and the
lowest cost prices. So find dishes that make a lot of profit and offer then
to the customers.
When you use new secret ingredients, make sure you compensate the cost of the
ingredient and a little extra. That way, you maintain the amount of money
you will make on that dish, perhaps a little more. That way, you don't lose
money on making your dish better.
Now, your most important thing is capacity. You want to have a restaurant
that has about 90 seats, and you need to ensure that about 8 tables are the
4 seaters, the rest can be paired tables. As long as you have enough seats,
you will be able to make some money. Now, you need to split your servers and
captains.
Splitting your staff will depend on your restaurant and capacity layout. You

will need 2 captains on both floors, so there doesn't need to be an uneven

split, but servers will be different. Depending on your capacity, you will
need to adjust accordingly, and if you have both your kitchen and restrooms
on the ground floor, then you might want to have either 3 or 4 servers on
the ground floor with 6 to 7 servers on the top.
With that aside, you should be able to run a smooth restaurant. You can use
complaints as a general guide to what needs to be done, server impoliteness
is based on training, whilst things like poor food means you need to increase
the quality. However, you should ignore complaints such as sound and wait
time, mainly because in a large restaurant, it is impractical to have
partitions to seperate all tables, which slow down delivery time, whilst
there is nothing you can do with delivery time, less you cut down the amount
of tables, which is not a key to success.
As with other staff, you only need as many receptionists as you have reception
desks. That would often be one, seeing you only need a single reception desk
whilst you will need 2 for the Coffee House, seeing that there are two
sections.
For Chefs in the kitchen, you will need to have all the slots occupied, that
is, you need to have 5 chefs inside the kitchen. You should start off with 2
chefs, hiring more if you see that there seems to be a lot of waiting
customers. They will gain skill over time as they cook, so be patient in
terms of skill.
Finally, the last member of staff, the Kitchen Porter. This one is interesting
because you only need at most, 2, but if you want, seeing that they are not
too expensive to hire, you can hire more. You will only need them to use the
dishwasher and operate the kitchen porter.
Now, the last part of success, pricing. You need to price your food so that
you will make money, but not to drive off customers. If you want to maximise
profits, restrict the choice of your menu to make the most money you can,
dishes with high profit margins.
However, this game is a learning experience, you will learn what works and
what doesn't, and that can't be written down. Just raise customer awareness,
which is how aware the public is of your restaurant, and that will lead to
more customers, and that leads to more money overall. Use this guide with
combination of the manual and in game campaign in order to get a good
understanding on how this game works.
