Choosing The Right Pilates Fitness Equipment

Having decided to commit to an exercise or fitness program, such as pilates is certainly commendable to say the least, however to ensure that you not optimise your time and efforts exercising with these techniques, you should ensure that you do in fact choose the right pilates fitness equipment.

Firstly a brief introduction into pilates will enable you to understand the core benefits and advantages of this tried and tested fitness and wellbeing technique and practice. The art and practice of pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates, primarily as 'system' to aid in the recovery of war veterans, and is based around the control of the muscles, which is basically summed up in what Joseph Pilates named Contrology. The overall practise of pilates, whether using pilates fitness equipment or not, is about effective breathing, active concentration on the routines, control, precision and the centering of the body and mind. The results literally speak for themselves, with an overall wellbeing of both mind and body, not to mention the enhanced flexibility that one will enjoy as one progresses within these routines.

The very beginnings of pilates, did not involve any significant 'machinery' or equipment, besides that of the padded mat, which is often times referred to as matwork, when practising this discipline. As the fitness routines developed and were refined, Joseph started to implement and devise specific pilates fitness equipment for added efficacy and optimization of exercises within the overall realm of pilates exercises. The vast majority of exercises conducted with this equipment is based upon what is known as resistance training

Arguably the most popular pilates fitness equipment that is used most often are the reformer, or pilates ring, the pilates ball and the pilates arm rings. Beyond these, and the bigger pilates fitness equipment include the Trapeze Table, the Wunda Chair and the Ladder Barrel. There are additional items, which are often used in the professional studio setup, however these items tend to become quite expensive and are not commonly found in the home environment.

Starting out with pilates, should include the use of the basic items described such as the mat, the reformer and the pilates ball; this should also be complimented with instructional dvds, which will enable you to practice pilates with the utmost

confidence under the guidance of a professional instructor within the comfort of your own home. Now you won't have an excuse not to practise pilates and use your pilates fitness equipment, will you?
