Experiences: Describe authentic (real life, hands-on not representational) materials and enticing/ creative experiences in

Students will have the opportunity to explore and gather natural materials from their school
environment. In order for the students to enrich their learning, the teacher will provide hands on, authentic
materials such as seeds, dirt, and various plant parts. Students will be encouraged to explore and become
familiar with the variety of objects. The teacher will keep the weather in consideration, while the children
gather materials i.e. if the weather is nice, the students will have the opportunity to go outside and explore.

Evidence of student learning:

Teachers will assess the students learning by observing and documenting pictures of their
exploration (no faces included). Before the exploration takes place, the class will participate in a guided
brainstorm to discover their previous knowledge about plants and the environment. A chart will be
composed in order to document their prior knowledge and understanding of plants. This chart will come in
use, later in the lesson, to reflect on the students knowledge.
