8:30AMinChardn221.Aswediscussedinourindividualmeeting,youdidaverygoodjobinyour
observedteachingandyoushouldbeproudoftheworkthatyouaredoinghereintheDepartmentof
English.AsasecondsemesterGraduateTeachingAssistant,Iwasimpressedwithyourperformancein
theclassroomandyourwillingnesstothinkoutsidetheboxonthewaytoteachaudienceawarenessusing
unconventionalmedia.Overall,thiswasaverygoodclassandIcommendyouonyourworkasaGTA.
Belowaresomestrengthsofyourclassandsomesuggestionsforthefuture.
Thestrengthsofyourclasswere:
Greatreachingvoice.Studentscouldhearyouwell..
Yourvarieduseofquestionshelpedstudentstoexpandtheirthoughtsonaudienceandsearchout
answersthatwererelatedtoreallifeexperiences.
Youmovedaroundthefrontoftheclassroom,makinggreateyecontactwithyourstudents.
Understandingandknowingyourstudentsnamesisimportantanditwasobviousthatyouknew
yourstudents.
Yoursequencingoftheactivitiesmovedwell.Youwereawareoftime,studentattention,and
motivationandplannedyourclassaccordingly.Thisdemonstratesthatyouaredevelopingyour
practiceasateacherofwritingintheclassroom.
Theuseoftheunconventionalvideoforstudentsfortheletterwritingactivitywasagreat
attentiongetterforstudents.
Youdisplayedaclearunderstandingoftheimportanceofaudiencetowritingandwereableto
conveythattoyourstudentsthroughtheclassactivities.
Youalsoshowedknowledgeandexperiencewithdifferenttypesofsocialmediabyincorporating
FacebookandTwitterinsideandoutsideyourclass.
Somesuggestionsforthefuture:
Whenyouwriteontheboard,besurethatitislegibleandthatyourmarkersareworking.One
waytoworkwiththisistouseablankWorddocumentandtypeinwhatyourstudentssaid.This
wayyoucanalsokeeparecordifyoudecideyouwanttosaveit.

Fromtheobservationitisclearthatyouhavedevelopedyourknowledgeandexperienceinthe
teachingofwriting.IimaginethatyourworkintheMayaWestWritingProjectandthe6040
coursehavehelpedyou.Evenso,thereareafewpointstobringoutthatyoumentionedinyour
classthatIneedtorespondto.First,freshmanstudentsneedexperienceusingthefirstpersonin
orderdeveloptheirvoice.Theyhavelearnedtosuppressitearlyoninhighschool.Inthetext,
TheySay/ISay,itiscommonforstudentstouseexpressionssuchasInmyvieworIconcede
andtheyareneededatfirsttodevelopthatsenseofIhavesomethingworthwhiletosay.Iwould
recommendthatforthefirstessaysthatstudentswriteyouallowthemtouse1stpersonandthen
teachthemhowtoremoveitifnecessary.

Overallthiswasaverygoodclass!Thisobservationshowsclearlyyourabilitytoplanandimplementa
successfulclassforfreshmancompositionstudents.Keepupthegoodworkandpleasefeelfreetocome
bywithanyquestionsorcomments.Mayyoucontinuetodevelopyourpractice!
